I use it as a less wordy Facebook, lol. I favor pictures over descriptions in social media because things are a bit more open to interpretation. It's one part documentary of certain moments in life, one part inspiration from others. Like an interactive, always evolving magazine. Fashion, design, human interest and inspiration.
Sorry if that's convoluted, I'm into my second glass of wine this evening.
Also @holly - I'm totally following you on IG now. lol

Ohhh, pm me your name if you like and I'll follow you
Instagram recently announced they would start releasing more data to advertisers based on what people liked, as they are noticing a huge trend of users "liking" things as a way to remember /"pin" something they want to buy in the future.
This is actually one of the main reasons I use it as well. I mainly follow friends and family, but also follow brands and creative entrepreneurs i admire and find it a less overwhelming version of Pinterest that I have more control curating (esp now that Pinterest pulls that bull shit with suggested pins)
Erm. For my dog. He has his own account. <insert embarrassed face here>
Our next dog is going to be a goldendoodle like Sheldon. I want the big fluff and curls. OMG. Where did you get him? Rescue? Do they have goldendoodle rescues?! WANT.

It started out as a personal account, I started a business account then closed it so now it is 90% non-business but slowly changing into mostly business with a few random personal photos of my kid and/or dogs (which was what is mostly had).
I try to remember to take photos of other things, but we don't really go out the way we used to, and my face only cooperates for selfies once every six months or so.
I really use it because I like following people and seeing all of the photos they post. I follow a bunch of MLers, some celebrities, magazines, musicians, and lately I have been using it for baby clothes re-sale accounts, too.
I use it mainly for fitness/running and outdoor sports inspiration. I post my own activities and progress to keep track. No one I know IRL knows I have an account and I don't follow anyone I know IRL.
My photos are mostly of my kids, family, and travels. I have a lot of family followers, so it's a way of sharing photos with them. I much prefer IG over FB, and my family and friends are more active on IG as well.
As for the overall look of my feed: I tend to use the same few filters so the tones are similar, and every so often I go through and delete some photos that are too busy and/or less pretty, usually ones that are showing off what we're doing on a particular day, like going to a museum or hanging out with cousins. It also keeps my feed from getting too unwieldy so it doesn't take me ages to go back to the beginning to reminisce.
@holly, I love how all of your photos are so light and airy. I wish my feed looked as pretty as yours does! But it's hard to make three crazy, colorful kids look artistic without using Inkwell and Willow all the time. lol.
eta: I follow mostly family and friends, along with a few celebrities, bloggers, and travel sites.

I have two accounts. One is for work and I try to post something almost every day so parents can see what's going on in the classroom. The other is my personal account and it's just to share random life moments and see my friends' random life moments.

When I was a young and dumb new teacher I let parents friend me- it was when FB first started going mainstream and everyone was friending everyone. If I could go back, I would never have accepted a friend request from a parent, but I feel like I opened that box and can't go back without being ugly. All of that to say that I keep my FB extremely generic and pretty much never post anything I wouldn't want everyone to see/read. I keep my Instagram on lockdown more (kind of- if anybody wants to be Instagram friends with a new poster/lurker, holla! Ha!) and post more personal things. I am doing project365 this year and that has been fun. I mostly follow family, friends, some bloggers, small boutiques and businesses, things like mental floss and national geographic and funny people/comedians.
I have personal art, pictures of my kids, not-so-covert internet winks, food I've made. I just started the account in October and I haven't really decided where I want to go with it.
