I've hired a 13 year old girl to do some housekeeping for me over the summer. I've known her family pretty well for a year or two now. She comes over once a week and cleans my whole (small) house...everything from doing dishes, cleaning toilets to folding laundry. She is really thorough and seems to LOVE having her first "job". I own my own business so I'm mostly not home while she's here but I do pop in and out occasionally.
Today she told me she'd done something for me as a surprise and that it was in my bedroom. So...after she left, I looked and she had organized every square inch of my dresser. Like, every panty, bra and t-shirt is folded and color-coordinated and arranged in my dresser. Granted it WAS a bit of a disaster...but....would you think it was sort of weird? Or an awesome surprise?
I know I've had her folding my laundry before, so it shouldn't be that big a deal. But I sort of feel like digging around in my dresser drawers is a bit of a privacy breach. What says ML?
A little weird, but I'd just focus on being grateful that she did something nice for you. If you don't want her doing certain things in the future, I would just tell her that upfront.

I think it's an awesome surprise, because she's 13 and probably doesnt realize that she may have crossed a boundary. Sounds like she did it solely to please you, not to be snoopy. If she were an adult who did that? Yeah, that would be weird.
I used to clean apartments when I was a kid for extra money and I could totally see myself doing something like this and not realizing it could be perceived as completely inappropriate. I think her heart was in the right place.
Okay good thoughts. I don't want to discourage her from taking the initiative to organize the place. Goodness knows it's really helpful. Last week she arranged my whole pantry. Kid is a lifesaver.
Also, god forbid a 13 yo ever goes through my drawers. Her parents would kill my ass.
Well, that's kinda it, too. DH was like, "she didn't organize your bedside table drawers did she!?!"
She's from an exceedingly conservative Christian family, so I already feel like she's getting an education around my house. For example, today she was washing the dishes and handed me the cocktail shaker and said, "I don't know what this is. Where does it go?" Haha!

I would be mortified but I'm weird about people touching my clothes. I wouldn't say anything to her though, it sounds like her heart was in the right place.
