He didn't reverse his stance on condoms. Condoms are still not allowed. What he actually said in the interview was basically:

"If a gay prostitute infected with HIV decides to use a condom to protect his partners from getting the virus, his intentions are good and that's respectable. But gay sex, prostitutes, and condoms are still all immoral."

Even though it's old the other day, I was jolted awake on my morning walk when I looked at the cover of the daily express paper. There was a provocative ad from the group Catholics for Condoms: Abstinence just doesn't work. I didn't look at all of the info, but the ad certainly did its job in getting my attention.
