CNN just reported that this happened on January 3.
I wonder whether some "rogue" element in ISIS did it. Not because I don't think the overall control structure wouldn't do something that heinous, but their MO is to try to get something in return before they kill someone. If they killed him so soon after capturing him they lost the opportunity to make gains financial or otherwise. The Jordanians have been pretty clear that they hadn't recieved proof of life, which would have been a prerequisite for any kind of negotiation.
I can't deal with this right now. I'm going on Thursday to watch my brother's Green Beret ceremony and see him receive an award... I want to be proud of his accomplishments and not sick to my stomach that his eventual job (within the next few weeks/months) is going to be ISIS or stuff in West Africa. I'm so torn about this ceremony. I am so so so proud of him. Unbelievably so. I want to support him. But I also want to be like, "WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY DID YOU DO THIS?" The past few years he's been safe and doing his training, and I didn't have to worry about him as much. Just worry that the government would accidentally kill him while doing their torture, I mean, training.

So if they never had proof of life, do you think he was injured and dying or dead already, before they tried to negotiate with Jordan?

He was already dead. Maybe they hoped the Jordanians would free their hostage anyway?
It had been reported previously that the Jordanian government pretty much told ISIS "Kill al-Kassasbeh and we'll go right ahead and kill all of your guys we have in prison." Sooooooo this is not going to end well.
I really feel like these nutbars are going to be the cause of WWIII.
This is the exact same thing my H said. I was telling him about the first article, and he sent me the HuffPo link about Jordans plan to execute the Iraqi woman.
Absolutely sickening. I am broken for him and his family.
My husband will be leaving later this year and flying missions over Iraq (his fourth carrier deployment but the first since ISIS has become a target). My worst nightmare, more than even his death, is him being captured by those monsters. It's unthinkable.
We have met many pilots from dozens of countries around the world over the past 13 years. Jordan is an ally. I am just numb.
So basically they started trying to negotiate using his release as a bargaining chip after he was already dead? Were they not expecting to be pushed for proof of life or were they just messing with Jordan?

I'm just sitting here thinking, "Is this really going to matter to ISIS?" There are a lot more people where she came from so ISIS won't give a damn about one dead prisoner.

The theory I'm pulling out of thin air says that they probably didn't expect a serious attempt from Jordan to negotiate.

Not to mention she was going to blow herself up anyway.
I've got to say, this isn't sitting well with me. I'm not sure what this woman's connection to ISIS could be; she's been in prison for nine or ten years. I think it's wrong to kill her in retaliation for something she had nothing to do with.

Praying for you. My brother deploys to a much less scary area in a couple of months, and I'm a bundle of nerves. I know it's way harder for you. (((Hugs))))

The faction she supported is current day ISIS, and they've been using her for their propaganda.

Ah. Still, presumably she faced justice and was sentenced. I still think it's wrong to kill her in retaliation.

Wasn't she trying to blow herself up? I have no fucks to give for any suicide bombers, least of all any that ISIS has love for. But admittedly, when it comes to known (keyword "known") terrorists, I'm not one to care about human rights or courts of law or any of it. I'm horrible but it is what it is.

I have thought the same thing many times since ISIS came to prominence.

Mmmhmmm. Let me be a bigger heathen and say "bitch boo bye"
Is the ban on burning people sharia or cultural? Because if it's actual sharia and not just a Malaysian Muslim thing I don't see this helping in terms of garnering support.
I am uncomfortable with revenge. It isn't good for the people it's taken against, and it isn't good for the people who take it, not really. Some of the responses in this thread remind me of responses from service members who go out and do things that are terrible after terrible things happen to their friends. I understand the desire for it, but it degenerates into something so much worse. I am all for taking care of them, I'm a hawk interventionalist generally, but revenge just begets more revenge. I am willing to engage in whatever we need to IOT eliminate or lessen the threat, but not revenge. It won't work on them.
No one is suggesting Jordan go snatch up some Syrian foreign aid workers or capture pilots or businessmen.
Just that we ain't sad that Jordan is going to execute someone they'd already sentenced to die for terrorist activity especially since the faction what was negotiating for her release was just dicking around for three weeks for funsies.
