A Wisconsin police officer says he's quite certain he's never responded to a call like the one he handled recently at a McDonald's restaurant.
Officer Rich Dahl of Beaver Dam responded to an anonymous complaint about a woman who brought a kangaroo into McDonald's. Dahl said Tuesday the woman had the baby kangaroo wrapped in a blanket and tucked in an infant car seat.
Dahl says when he confronted the woman she explained the kangaroo was a service animal to help her cope with emotional distress and she produced a letter from a doctor.
The officer says the woman was upset at first, but then agreed to leave the restaurant. Dahl says he doesn't know if a kangaroo would qualify as a service animal under the law, but he says he's glad he didn't have to find out. ***********
In Australia, no way would anyone want a service kangaroo. My husband knew a guy who was a vegetarian except for kangaroo because those fuckers eat all your plants, like deer in certain parts of the US.
It's unfortunately easy in many states to acquire almost anything you want at exotic animal auctions. For more info on the exotic animal crisis I recommend The Elephant in the Living Room available on netflix.

I know someone like that to! But for different reasons: they are wild shot and very sustainable as a meat source.
I can't wait until that kangaroo grows up, destroys the shit out of this woman's property, and kicks her in her emotionally-needy face with its Mike-Tyson-knock-yo-ass-out strength feet.

Well, emotional support animals don't qualify as service animals under the ADA, no matter what animal they are, so ...
It's difficult to watch ADA laws that were so hard won for canine service dogs be abused. These kinds of incidents make life infinitely harder for legitimate guide dog users evey where. The laws will cetainly change soon and acceptance that took decades to obtain will be lost.

But my overall reaction is just ....
No the ADA laws do not apply. But its also not legal to ask anything other than the animals function. You cannot ask about the persons disability or the animals certification. Many people are not 100% honest.

Oh, I know. My boss at my last contract job bought fake "certification" for their labrador retriever saying he was an emotional support animal. One of the myriad reasons I'm not sad that my contract there ended.
