DH and DD got home a bit before me today and from what he says he set her on the floor, turned his back for two seconds and down the stairs she went. We usually gate her out of the room with the stairs so we haven't put a gate on them yet. That will change tomorrow. DH says she cried a lot, but she quieted down fairly quickly and has been acting normal ever since. He checked her over and she seems fine. She will be ok right? Anything else we should be checking or watching?

In fear of sounding like a bad parent, DD2 fell down a full flight of stairs twice in one day. She's fine. I'd say as long as she acting fine she's probably okay.
If you're worried, I'd call the nurse line for peace of mind.
I'm sorry. I've been there. Just a couple of months ago k fell down the stairs. If you Google baby fall down stairs it will bring up a website explaining how babies and kids can handle it so much better than adults. It made me feel a little better. I'm on my phone and nursing a baby so I can't post it.
Thanks guys. It was a whole flight of stairs. It makes me feel better to hear she's not the only one to have done this. She seems to be perfectly fine and we will continue to keep an eye on her. And I will check out that website awinter - thanks.

If it makes you feel better, my son was 15 months when he managed to open the gate and fall down a full flight of stairs onto a concrete floor. He was fine. We happened to have our 15 m check up that day. I called in and they said just to make sure he wasn't favoring one side, extra sleepy or vomiting.
At 10 months DS fell down a 1/2 flight (changes direction at the landing, thankfully). DH is super cautious and insisted we take him to the paeds ER in town. He was crying, but otherwise himself by the time we were in the car. They were fabulous at the hospital, and the nurses joked we were likely in more distress than DS, and by the time the Dr saw us DS was grabbing for his glasses, lanyard/ID, and stethoscope.
They said the normal behaviour and curiosity were good signs and the main thing they look for, that had it been us we wouldn't be walking, and that they actually allow infants and toddlers to throw up TWICE after a fall before they begin to worry (I guess they might cry and be upset enough to vomit, and it isn't assumed to be head trauma-related like an older kid or adult).
I hope your LO is just fine. It's scary, and you'll kick yourselves (or DH), but the message we heard again and again from the hospital staff is that it happens frequently and they're typically just fine.
