How many kids are we talking about? I mean, a petting zoo would be awesome but in my circles I think it would be unnecessary.
I threw a Christmas party and we had a ton of 2-6 year olds. I bought those huge coloring books from dollar tree and lots of crayons. They seems occupied the whole time. I also had frozen playing in the basement for those that wanted to go down there.
LOL, I'd put the movie showing on the invite and use it to weed out "friends" that judge me that hard.
No, I wouldn't buy $200 entertainment for a first birthday. After watching my kid and kids up to 10 years older than him pummel each other with pool noodles for a full hour, that is seriously my go-to in the future.
At DD's party, I had the restaurant person put in a DVD one of the moms brought (The Incredibles, I think) and that was it. Besides DD and 2 other babies, there were about 10 kids from age 3 - 10.
And if there hadn't been access to a DVD player, I would have done nothing.
