My 5 year old son is currently at the dentist with my DH. This is a new location, but not new staff. They took him back by himself. Do you find that odd? I do because it is a different office than the last one he was seen in and because he is only five. What do you think?
Our first appointment (well since his tongue tie was corrected) is next week but our pediatric dentist sees patients under three on the parent's lap and after that they are alone.

My kids are 5 and 3 but at our pediatric dentist, I've always been asked to accompany the kids when they take them back to clean their teeth. There are older kids there whose parents often sit in the waiting room but most of those kids appear to be 10+.
DD goes back by herself and she's 6. I only came in at the end (post-cleaning and x-rays) last time because they were pulling a tooth.
It doesn't seem weird to me, unless your DH asked to go and they told him he couldn't.
Ditto. At 5 I don't really think it's weird but if he was scared or didn't want to go alone, I think it's shitty.
That said we still go back with our near-5yo, but that seems to be the norm in our office.
I believe that DH asked and was told "he wasn't really allowed." Which is why I am questioning. Along with it being the first visit to a brand new building. The appointment is over and the little guy was super proud that he did it all by himself. I appreciate all the input!
DS has been going by himself since 4. I could go but they prefer I don't. It's a small office and he usually hangs out with the receptionist while my teeth are cleaned then he goes back.
Caramini is 3 and looooves the dentist. She has been going every 6 months since she was one. At our last visit (3.5), she went back by herself. The treatment area is open bays and she always has the same hygienist. I persinally know her dentist. I am cool with it.
I haven't been back with DS since he was 4-ish. He did better without me.
Contrast with the orthodontist who has his office set up like a barber shop with 6 chairs and a kids' butt in each one. There was a half wall, and parents were welcome on the office chairs beyond it. LOL, he had really cushy arm chairs and Vanity Fair in his waiting room, so I tended to stay there. Sometimes when things were quiet, the orthodontist would ask me to come back so he could chat. Odd dude.
