My husband is starting a new job in a couple weeks. The dress code is a true "business casual" not "san Francisco business casual," i.e. dark jeans and button downs. The office only wears jeans on Fridays.
He has no pants that are not jeans or suit pants because he has never had a need for them. He hates chino/khaki style pants.
What kind of pants to men wear if they don't wear jeans, suit pants, or chinos?
He wears a size 40 waist. While I'm not entirely familiar with how sizing works on men's stores, from what I gather, it falls into the same no-mans land as 16/18 does for women.

H wears Dockers. IDK if that's the same as Chinos or not. I've only read that word in books. lol I have even less idea about sizes. I just know H routinely underestimates which size he needs.
Check out Roundtree and York dress pants at Dillards. They last forever, are machine wash and dry (or can be sent to the cleaners), have a comfort waist, and come in Jean sizes (like 40 X 34). Only pants DH wears.
Is it the color or the style or the material of chinos/khakis that he doesn't like? My H wears flat front pants that are between dress/suit pants and khakis, usually in darker colors though he does have lighter shades too.
I'd imagine his work wardrobe will be compromised mostly of button down shirts and dress pants. Polos are also very common around here, but that's more of a SoCal thing I suspect.
DH's uniform is dress shirts from Banana/J Crew/Brooks Brothers and dress pants from J Crew or BR (similar to these). It looks like most of BR's dress pants are available in waist sizes up to 44 online.

Oh these are good. I am going to suggest these to him. They look a bit less formal than a suit pant.
elleblue, it's both the material and the style of the khakis that bothers him. He feels they are horribly unflattering on heavier guys but maybe he just hasn't found the right pair.
They definitely can be very unflattering, I'd suggest steering very clear of pleated front khakis or dress pants, those usually are the worst. Oddly, stockier/heavier men often gravitate towards them, but they really don't look good on anyone but the slimmest.

My H really likes these pants from Costco (I know) that are cut like jeans, but are out of more 'pants' fabrics... they come in blue, black, tan. (I find this ironic, as a side note, because my favorite pants are trouser-cut jeans)
He has a tendency to wear pants like that, with a solid color tee (or maybe a ringer or simple stripe, just no graphic) with an (open, untucked) shirt over top (often in a plaid or sometimes, when he's feeling wacky, a Hawaiian)
Besides those places already mentioned, you should check out Target and oddly enough, Costco. My H has found some great work pants there, though obviously it can be hit or miss depending on what they're stocking at the time. Target does have pants up to 42 in some styles. link

DH is a HUGE HUGE fan of Uniqlo chinos. He found them when he was a size 38 and says they are the only store that nailed a slim look for bigger guy. He's down to a size 34 now.

Plus, free hemming.
I was going to say that I had never heard of this store, but when I googled it, I realized that it's in the shopping center I most often frequent, but I had no idea it sold clothes. I think I thought it was a furniture store. It's at the far end, and I had never walked in that direction. H was just there today looking for clothes, and I'm sure he didn't know about it either.

I'm now intrigued.
You have one in your mall? And you don't even know?!?!!
I'm so jealous! They haven't come to DC yet so basically every trip to NYC involves a stock up at Uniqlo.
