My vent today is more of a worry, about my sister. I'm really concerned about her because she's been talking to this guy she met online through a dating site, and she's moving way too fast.
Ugh, I've had friends do stuff like this in the past. I just have a hard time trusting someone I met online until there is sufficient proof they aren't a total creeper, haha. Seriously though, too many horror stories that start like that!
Oh hell no! She needs to see him on skype at least!! And wtf that he has seen her but not vice versa? Is he like, peering at his computer from around a corner so he doesn't come into the frame? Covering the camera? SO shady
How old is she? This sounds like something my sister would have done when she was 16. It still boggles my mind that with the news stories about these meet-ups gone wrong people aren't skeptical of a bad outcome.
I am team you all the way. Do whatever you can to either convince her to avoid this situation, or be there as back up if it goes bad.
She lives far from me, so being there when they meet isn't an option. I hope very very soon she realizes that it's dangerous and stops talking to him.
mac08 Apparently you can turn off the "video" function on Skype so that all that is sent from your end is audio.
Someone needs to watch a Catfish marathon. This is not good.
Have the requests for money started yet? Because they will totally come. My mom's friend lost $1,500 to a guy she "just loved" who refused to use a web cam.
Big fat NOPE! I really hope you can talk some sense into her. Maybe find an article on a situation like this to send to her to make "scare" her into being more responsible!
Team StarGazer over here!!!! You're a good sister!
My insurance will only pay for nutritional counseling if you have diabetes. What about all of the other possible reasons why you might need that service?? Ugh.

:/ that's stupid! It should cover it as a preventative measure, because really isn't it cheaper to have one now the. To have one and cover diabetic stuff?
Eta: not saying that you'll get diabetes without the help, just good eating can change diabetes outcomes for the future.

Well, I need it to learn how to eat a balanced, healthy diet with the restrictions attached to my new diagnosis. I'm going to ask my doctor to write a letter to the insurance company to see if they will make an exception for me.
Well, he's a catfish. My sister did hours of googling screen names and found a blog devoted to outing him. He apparently has been on numerous dating sites, getting close to dozens of women. He uses the same story every time, never shows himself on Skype. I'm really glad that she found this out.

Oh my gosh, how scary! Thank goodness she was smart enough to listen and do some research before agreeing to meet him.

Yeah, she dodged a bullet. Luckily she didn't give him personal info about herself. He's been doing this for YEARS.
I'm so angry about this. She reported his profile to the dating website, but he didn't commit any actual "crime" and thus will get away with it and do this to women again and again.
So now I can't decide if this whackjob is a loser in his mom's basement or married and living some weirdo double life? Either way, I hope my sister is more discerning in the future about who she trusts.
