Does anyone have an opinion about these? They both seem like they would take up minimal space, but the rock n play has the benefit of folding up. Then again, the rockaroo is electric, so no need to push it to keep it going. There's a decent price difference for new, but I found a lightly used rockaroo on CL, so price isn't much of a factor really. Which would you go with?
I don't think of them as similar items. I think the Rockaroo is more like a swing or electric bouncer.
The RnP is more for sleeping and travel (since it folds up).
Are you getting a swing and/or bouncer as well?
We did get a bouncer. I was not planning on getting a swing. We have a tiny house and not much space for stuff like that. I guess I thought these two were similar enough, but maybe the bouncer is more like the rockaroo?
Different purposes. We loved our rnp - dd slept in it overnight until 8 months. Used it in the bathroom when I was getting ready in the morning or if I wanted to shower when she was itty bitty.
The rockaroo seems cool, but maybe instead of a swing.
For the price difference, I would go for the RNP, personally. The thing is you don't really know what your kid is going to like. It would suck to spend $180 on something your kid ends up hating.
It's partly a space thing, but also just seems easier to have him right there next to me. We have a king size bed, so I'm pretty comfortable with that set up.
Maybe I should get the rockaroo and have the bouncer and skip the RnP unless it seems like he doesn't dig those two?

I think this is a good plan especially if you can get the rockaroo cheaper used from Craiglist. If he ends up hating it, then you can toss it up for basically what you paid!

The RNP gets a lot of love on these boards. I own one and DD slept in it a lot for her daytime naps until 5 months. It wasn't a lifesaver for us like I read a lot on here, but it was very useful to drag into the bathroom when I was showering or to keep her in the living room with me.
I also owned a RockaRoo and it is not the same at all. Not as portable. DD hated it. She wouldn't really stay in it until she was 3 months old. Even then, she would only stay for about 5 minutes before she started yelling and flailing to get out. Contrast that to the RNP - she was napping and chilling in the RNP from 3 weeks old. I almost feel lucky that our Rockaroo stopped rocking and I was able to take it back to BBB and get all my money back because it was broken.
We did not own anything else like a swing or bouncy chair because we also have limited space. We bought a small vibrating chair that can be rocked manually when she was 3 months old. (Baby Einstein Rhythm of the Reef rocker at Target) The chair can be used to age 4 or something. DD is 14 months and sits in it every day to drink her milk. That has been $50 well spent.
ETA - even though the RNP can be folded, we have never folded it. It is sitting upstairs in our loft area and I need to get rid of it.
Oh, the Rockaroo used to be the mamaroo! We had both. DD loved loved LOVED the RnP and couldn't have cared less about the mamaroo. Plus I felt comfortable with her sleeping in the RnP whereas the mamaroo was more like a bouncer/swing thing.
This is really useful to me - H's aunts got us a RNP as a shower gift but I have also been wondering about the Rockaroo.
Would it be pointless to get a bassinet along with the RNP?
I used the RNP as a bassinet. I plan on keeping it in case we have a third, so I like how it folds up. I also used it when visiting other people during nap time. Although I wanted one of those cosleeper things that go right up to the bed, but that's because ds was the worst sleeper.

I think this is along the lines of what I want to do. I think I'm going to get the cosleeper basket thing that goes on the bed, since I had planned to do this anyway. I'll also get the RnP to be used at other times of day. I may return the bouncer we got. I'll buy something else if he doesn't seem happy with the RnP. I want to get all the things, but I'm trying to pare it down and get what we actually need.
