I have a black cat too. And 13 is my 2nd lucky/favorite number.
If I do something like open an umbrella inside I think "oh, that's supposed to be bad luck" but I don't actually think bad luck is going to happen. It's more to association.
I find myself knocking on wood sometimes. My mom told me about all these weird Russian superstitions, and sometimes they do affect me. For instance, you're not supposed to let something like a pole get "between" you and someone else when you're walking. The point being, it symbolizes something getting between you in your relationship lol. So if I'm at the mall with my H, and we're approaching a pillar, I scoot over to walk past it on the same side that he did. I know it's crazy, but I do it anyway.

Remember when we were kids and we had those sayings like "Step on a crack, break your mother's back?" We were always all jumping over cracks in the street and sidewalk.

That is the biggest one I follow! My grandma always said not to let something get between you. I have never known anyone else who heard of that one.

I knew a few people who heard of this, but only Russians. Is your grandma by any chance Russian?
My favorite cats I've ever had are black cats. :-)
AGREED! Right after we adopted them, someone told me that black kitties aren't as easily adopted out from the shelters. Because of that, I told DH may ONLY own black cats from here on out! I'll take them home!!!

It makes me so sad when I see black cats' adoption fees waived or reduced because no one wants them! When we got Plinko the shelter had something like 20 black kitties because a few moms had given birth at the same time. It was crazy.

Black Cats 4 EVER in this household! They're sooooo sweet and awesome!! More people need to get over the stigma!

Um my favorite cat is my black cat! I'd say don't tell the other cat I have a favorite but he knows, lol. Midnight is the best cuddler EVER. He's my soft purring teddy bear!
I'm trying to think.. I'm sure there's something..
I'm very superstitious about everything at work. I worked several Friday the 13ths, not paying attention to what day it was when I was making my schedule, and I swore never again!!

I try not say things out loud that I wouldn't want to come true. You know how you knock on wood so bad spirits don't hear you (or something)? Same principle. If I think it, that's ok. Verbalizing it puts it out there.

Yes, I know I'm crazy.
I don't think that's crazy at all. Thoughts/Words become things. It's the basis behind a lot of the positive thinking books out there right now.

this. almost all of my superstitions are work-related. I believe in jinxes (the words "slow" "quiet" and "bored" are not allowed around me), full moons, and Friday 13th when it comes to work. if I'm expecting it to be slow and I bring a book, that has jinxed my shift and I'll barely have time to sit, much less pee, eat, or even chart.
and sports. I am superstitious about sports. I believe in rally caps in baseball, and wearing/not wearing certain items of clothing to games or while watching games. I have pair of really cool Aggie earrings that I never wore for games for the longest time (then I wore them once, and we ended up winning so now they're in rotation). in 2012, I wore a certain pair of underwear for our loss to Florida. then I was watching the Mississippi game later that season at a friend's house, and realized in 2nd quarter that I was wearing the same pair of underwear. I went out to my car and ditched the panties, went commando for the rest of the night. we went on to win the game. so those panties are verboten when the Aggies are playing.
I am also a believer in knocking on wood.
Friday the 13th in general, outside of work, doesn't bother me though. I was born on Monday the 9th, and brought home from the hospital on Friday the 13th.

I also do this. I don't like walking on the opposite side of the pole either!

Today is my Dad's birthday! I went over to say Hi and give a card & present, Saw a black cat on the way down there. *Gasp* Am I superstitious at all.... NO! I knock on wood occasionally, but more as a joke. I'm not oh throw salt over shoulder, don't walker under ladders, break mirror 7 years bad luck sorta person. I just don't give a shit. Did you know we actually had 4 "Friday the 133th's" in 2014.
