Aight. So, my beautician would have some sort of oil in a bottle (like a condiment bottle) and part your hair and put the oil on your scalp. Around the edges of your hair, she'd apply petroleum jelly so you wouldn't get chemical burns.

Eventually, you people (yes, like that) are gonna believe me when I tell you this is why I have a white daughter. Because I am white LOLOL

I rarely got my hair done in a salon though. It was always my mama or me and a kit from the "ethnic" section of wallyworld. I quit that shit cold turkey when I was 23, relapsed once when I was 26 and haven't been back since. I do get cuts and colors but a white lady does it. Poor girl doesn't know how to straighten my hair so I usually flat iron it nice and pretty and let her cut it dry.

This is why sometimes I think you're living a conservative parallel version of my life.

A mixed lady cuts my hair on the very rare occasion I have it done. She is magic with curls and I will follow her anywhere.
