The ladies at work put out a really pretty spread in the kitchen today and they all decided to dress up Fortunately for my diet, the yummy looking noodle dish has shrimp so I can't eat it.
I was just mentioning that "It's my year! I'm a sheep!" to my friend who then told me, "Oh no, that means its a BAD YEAR for you! It's unlucky when its your year!" Asians are weird

Oh! And don't forget that when figuring out your sign, since CNY is today (2/19), that means if your birthday is Jan 1 - CNY, you actually look at the year before your birth as your sign since in the Chinese calendar, its still that year. Which is why although I was born 1980, I look at the 1979 for my year.

Buy CNY changes every year based on the lunar calendar I thought.
Again, Asians are weird.
Where is jennlin when you need her to explain these things?

Oh probably, but I think you can generally assume if your birthday is in January, then look at the previous year. I mean, isn't CNY usually sometime mid-ish Feb?

I really think it depends on the year. I remember some years it being in late January.
I wouldn't listen to me though. I like Panda Express and I don't really know how to use chopsticks well.
As the Chinese zodiac recurs every 12 years, your animal year will come around when you are 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, etc.
Good thing my birthday is on 12/29 and I only had to deal with 2 days of "bad luck" for my year.
Horse attribute - Forging ahead I like that. Apparently I'm an "Earth Horse." Optimistic, kind-hearted, righteous, but irritable; with a strong sense of responsibility, and always ready to help others
People born in a year of the Horse are extremely animated, active and energetic. Horses love to be in a crowd, and they can usually be seen on such occasions as concerts, theater performances, meetings, sporting events, and parties.
Of course!!
Therefore Horses shouldn't do overtime too often, and then come home very late. Also Horses should refuse some invitations to parties at night.
I have a hard time saying no to parties.
Horses are suggested not to indulge in speculative spending (like the lottery), and treat such things as occasional recreational activities.
So that's why I didn't win anything on my scratchers the other day!
I grew up always thinking I was a monkey until I realized my birthday before CNY put me as a sheep
People born in a year of the Goat are generally believed to be gentle mild-mannered, shy, stable, sympathetic, amicable, and brimming with a strong sense of kindheartedness and justice.....They are reserved and quiet, most likely because they like spending much time in their thoughts.
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Boy is THAT wrong!! I was shy when I was younger and get bouts now and then but in general totally am not.
Apparently I'm an earth goat "Righteous, honest, straightforward, and will never harm their friends." which does seem to suit.
Not fair, why do I have to be an earth goat in BOTH Chinese AND Greek zodiacs!!

interesting... I am a tiger, but based on @ksta's assessment of if you are born Jan 1-CNY you should look at the year before. This year, I (obviously) barely meet that requirement, and I actually find the ox much more fitting than the tiger. Last year, CNY was the end of January though (we were in Japan during CNY Jan 30-Feb 6)

I'm a dragon. 2012 was a TERRIBLE year for me. The year I discovered my ex's affair, moved back to WA, and started over. So they may be onto something. hopefully not, though, as I don't want you to have a bad year!

Please don't say that. I have had my share on bad luck last year with my lay offs, grandfather's cancer and everything else, I need this year to be good. Ughh.. why do I have to be a goat....

Yes, it changes every year. My birthday is in late January, so sometimes (often) it's before the New Year, and other times it's after.
I was born in the year of the Rat, but didn't know that until I was in high school, because SOMEONE *cough elementary school cough* took the 1984 = Rat, 1985 = Ox a little too seriously.

I'm sure it's purely coincidence! Here's to a fantastic 2015 & disproving that theory!
Chinese new year is typically late January until mid February.. It's pretty late this year. If you have a late Jan or Feb birthday.. Google the year you were born and Chinese new year to figure out if you are that year or the year before. If you are early January, you can assume the previous year.

That doesn't make sense since dragon year is lucky for almost all signs and other dragons :l nothing is consistent
