Go after everything! His family can bail him out, which judging by his attitude and general lack of responsibility is what they have been doing his whole life. This guy sounds like a premise for some cheeky Adam Sandler comedy.
if this were someone else posting, i think you would tell them to go for all of it, and that's what you need to do.
and that dog is your baby! he hurt your dog! fuck him.Â
Well and practically speaking if Nika is still showing and this creates a phobia that makes it difficult to transport her to her shows... I don't think you can actually go after "damages to cainine career prospects", but still!
I'm sorry about the accident, and I'm glad everyone is okay. But I cannot get over the details in this story. Yurt! That doubles as a yoga studio! White Ghandi! Is this real life?

Does CA have state covered uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage? You may be able to get some relief there. Secretary of state website may be able to give you some info.
My only unhelpful thoughts: (1) OMG, I'm so sorry your husband was in an accident. Glad he's ok. Fuck about the car! UGH. (2) LMAO that you are dealing with a guy who has a yurt.
(heart)
The complaint's Intel reads "Mark Asshole, a licensed psychologist, published author, heir to the largest clothing factory in the UK, and self-described "white Gandhi," is trying to evade liability for an accident for which he is the undisputed at-fault party. Dr. ASshole is a citizen of the UK, which may explain why, when he moved to America in January 2015, he chose to purchase only the state minimum liability coverage ($5k), despite assets in the UK that include a home, yurt, and, on information and belief, partial interest in a music venue and the ___ factory. ". I may tweak it to be less aggressive but . . .
I am so sorry your hubby and pup were in a car accident!!!
But I think I am going to be a voice of dissent and say that I would let the guy have some time to sort things out. I understand he was absolutely completely at fault but I think in the heat of the moment sometimes our gut is to protect and be defensive. He may feel bad about it all after having some time to think it over. PLUS, it is probably extra frightening when you realize just how much $$$ in damage you might have caused when it initially happens. If you start out combative I doubt you will get anywhere and making this an international situation will most likely be a very long, drawn out process and a lot of $$ for everyone involved.
In summary, he is a dick. But if you start off in attack mode I doubt you will get much. I would first attempt to be the bigger person for a short while and let insurance and a few things play out.

I...am not confident in your character judgement Lol! This guy calls himself white ghandi and wears headphones while driving. Now I'm feeling suspicious that you secretly own a yurt!

Omg, I'm dying at the "White Ghandi" and the yurt.
I'm sorry your H and Nika were in an accident, but I'm glad they weren't seriously injured.
I really don't like that he's evading you, that's not cool at all. He really doesn't realize who he's dealing with, does he? Welcome to California "White Ghandi". lol

Go after him. Before I was in an MVA, I thought going after the other Driver was cruel. Since we've been with our lawyer, I don't feel the slightest bit bad because you have to do what needs done to protect yourself. It's his fault he's in this mess, mva wise, and with proper insurance. Give him hell elle! I hope your H and Nika are ok. No matter how small an MVA can be, they are terrifying, regardless of damage or injuries.

I'm glad it sounds like no one was seriously injured!
I agree with pp's. Hand him his ass. What if he had hit someone who had a custom ($$$) van due to a handicap and lives on disability and couldn't cover the high cost to replace. Why should your ability to cover the costs absolve him of responsibility? Not having enough insurance is a risk, and it's a risk he chose to take and he lost. If it was any of us, you would be telling us to go after every penny we could. Practice what you preach.
Lastly, my first that after reading this, after being glad that everyone was ok, was that this guy has NO idea who he is messing with. I almost feel bad for him, but with his attitude, nope.
Every single penny. Seriously. I am in year 5 of car accident litigation hell and you just never know what the future holds. Go for broke now and settle if he changes his attitude. Or not
I would show no mercy. If he had been appropriately responsible about it after the fact and/or appropriately apologetic, I would cut some slack. But given all the facts, no. No mercy.
I really feel like White Gandhi over here needs to learn a lesson. Your damages are an extreme case, but what if he had hit someone else with no resources to cover anything in the meantime and he'd pulled the same crap (lying about his address, the facts of the accident, etc)? Nail him to the wall.
I was thinking this same thing. Sure, it's not his fault you had such an expensive vehicle/crate, but really...he could have hit someone for whom replacing a 14 year old Tercel and booster seat from Costco would have been equally as difficult, KWIM? And who didn't have the resources, education, legal experience, etc to do anything about it.
