I stayed home from work today even though I feel like 80% ok just to avoid infecting my office with the stomach bug. MH is laying on the couch groaning and nibbling saltines.
I hate working from home with him here. tacosforlife He's been watching Charmed all morning. Apparently daytime TV is slim pickin's and he forgets we have Netflix.
Also I have a PIP present for pixy0stix, but I'll have to eta it from my phone in a second...
I have the day off tomorrow just for the hell of it. DH is taking the car, and I will be all alone for the entire day with no schedule. Get my hard run out of the way tonight, then a bubble bath. I have a bag of Cadbury mini eggs waiting. A whole day to veg and read. Then when DH gets home, we get to start binge-watching House of Cards. It will be a glorious start to the weekend.

I want to do something dramatic with my hair but have no clue what.
Also... do you ever get the feeling people know stuff you don't?? In the last two weeks, the house next to us, the house behind us, and the house next to them all have gotten new roofs. I find this strange.
I grabbed myself a donut this morning from the grocery store (local midatlantic chain) while buying ginger ale and saltines. Had to snap a pic.
See, your grocery store knows how to properly name things.
Obviously.
Also I have a random fun/mean story about this particular chain. It's called Weis. Pronounced to rhyme with vice.
A friend of mine has a sister who is not the sharpest tool in the box. They moved into a new house and they told sister (like 15? ish? at the time) to walk down the street a few blocks, go to the weis and pick up some sandwich fixin's for lunch while they moved stuff. She was gone for about 2 hours. Like, they were about to send people out to look for her and contemplating calling the police once they noticed that so much time had passed. Finally she comes back, no groceries in hand and clearly agitated. They were like, "OMG, what's wrong?? what happened??" and she says, "you guys must have sent me the wrong way. I walked and walked and walked and didn't see a grocery store. So I came back and now I'm tired and hungry." And they were very confused (because there's no way to get this wrong give t street layout) and said, "well, sweetie, what did you see?" And she goes, "well I saw a gas station, and a couple of little stores and a We Is, BUT NO WEIS."
And they just tried really really hard not to laugh. We Is. WE IS. I can't even see the store without thinking, "we is" and laughing to myself. Poor girl.

I always thought I had never heard of Long Johns before this board because they were regional to an area I did not live in. I guess I stand corrected. I do tend to stay far, far away from the bakery though.

I assume they were all built around the same time? So they'd come due for roofs on ROUGHLY the same schedule? That plus the fact that once a contractor is in a neighborhood they'll go door to door and leave cards and offer free estimates = roofing clusters.
Our neighborhood had the same thing happen with a bunch of poplar trees getting taken out. We started it with a big dead one in the backyard, and then like 3 other people on my street used the same tree guys to take down similarly past-their-prime weed trees.
ETA: your hair - how long is it now? I really liked the pixy pixie cut on you when you had that. Ohhhh... With color! Do something fun with the color because you can! Spiky purple hair!!

I think I need the snow day today more than my kids do. I am seriously behind on just about everything because I've been on a huge deadline so I'm out of my usual routine, and DH is OOT, which means there is no one to pick up the slack. Not having to scramble to make lunches and get the girls to school today has been a boon. I've put in a load of laundry, finally got three days of dishes in the dishwasher, shoveled the driveway and am going to take a leisurely shower before I start working for the day.
I posted this on ML randoms but I will post it here too. I'm renting a condo in Florida next winter for a month and going wjth the kids. I have to book it now because all the damn Canadians book this stuff up! Lol. Our condos are rented annually and not furnished so we can't actually use ours. lol.

We had 5" of lake effect snow this morning. It looked pretty but I saw 3 cars in the ditch (one on my street that looked like he backed out of the drive, hit the gas, and flew into the ditch) and one jack-knifed semi on the freeway.

If you'd asked me before today what they call them around here I'd have had no idea. I mean, I've seen long cream filled donuts before, but never noticed what they were called. But apparently at least at Weis, they're Long Johns.

This is exactly what happens. People see something being done, and will often use the same contractor as their neighbors. Which equals everyone getting things done at the same time.
We had the same thing happen with trees. We searched for a long time to find a qualified arborist to trim the huge old cottonwood in our backyard. Our neighbors saw the work and kept on coming over to ask for quotes on projects in their own yards. They ended up doing 3-4 other jobs in our area.

DH had a bad stomach bug earlier this week. Now I'm sick, but not nearly as bad as he was, thank goodness. I had some toast and ginger ale and didn't want to die.

It might warm your little environmental doomsday heart to know that I've also observed a cluster in my neighborhood of geothermal installations after we did ours. And solar - though we didn't start that one. our house is like 80% shaded. But like 5 houses all have solar from the same place. They all had the signs in their front yard at the same time last year.
H is in Salt Lake City for the next 3 days at a conference, so I have no desire to cook. But if I don't, I'll only have ice cream, and pb&marshmallow sandwiches, and make shift taco-pizzas.

I have to go to some accreditation/assessment meeting with whatever committee flew in to do the assessing/accrediting. They are meeting with the assistant professors as a group. I'm contemplating just sitting back in my chair, stretching and saying "Tenure, bitches!"

DH just found out that the top sales earners at his new company get to go on a company retreat with their wives. Last year the company took everyone to Italy. This year it's St. Croix. I told him he better make that list. Or else.

And the problem is?
I think I'm going to run out tortillas for my make-shift pizzas.
My performance review yesterday went awesome. Apparently my feelings of inadequacy are imposter syndrome.
Today I have to come up with some action to prevent recurrence of newbies not blindly following experienced people's ideas. Having run off all the experienced people is probably not and acceptable answer.

My husband is going to SXSW next month and I'm so excited to just eat whatever the hell I want for 4-5 days. Not that I don't, you know, work at home and eat whatever during the day AND cook all of our dinners and decide what we are eating each night. But I don't have to be boxed in by everyone's concept of what a "meal" is this way.
