I have two different moms who have approached me about sewing lessons for their 5-year-olds. I am super excited about the possibility of doing this, but have no idea what to charge. It would be an hour a week, and they would me mom-and-me lessons - mom and kid would be working together and both learning to sew. They will provide their own fabric and thread, or use mine but with the cost added in to the lesson. But what do I charge for the actual lesson? When I do custom sewing for people I charge $15/hr... I'm thinking $20/a class (an hour)? Does that seem legit?
I think the real question here is if this will be advertised as mommy and me or child and special person lessons. I think that sounds like a fun idea and a reasonable price.

I would love a class like that!!!!! Yes, more than reasonable for an hour. Make sure you are taking into account supplies/location if applicable costs.
I will provide supplies like scissors, tape measures, pins, etc. They will provide fabric and thread, or I can provide it with the cost (about $10) added in to the first lesson. Private lessons will be in my home, or theirs. If I travel to their house, the per lesson cost is $30.
mamaalysson - Do you ever do quilt projects for clients? I saw on a former Bumpie blog one time that she had an Etsy seller make a quilt out of some of her DD's baby clothes as a memento. I LOVED the idea and now that DD2 is turning 2 next week (which I am sobbing about), I have been attempting to come to terms with the fact I will never have a little baby again and maybe doing this would be therapeutic. PM to chat if you like!

I have seen that idea, and I have been setting aside clothes to do this with (because, yes, sobbing that my baby is almost 2). It would be a big project, but I would love to do something like that. Maybe we need a no kid meet up to discuss. :-)

I would love to! I might head to IKEA this weekend to grab a few things if you are interested (not necessarily chatting about the project, but rather procuring inexpensive Swedish goods and cinnamon rolls). I am leaving the kids home with DH, so par-tay.
