Mine gets here tomorrow so I don't know for sure but that sounds ridiculous lol
I know, right?
I talked him into it anyway, using phrases like "I found a reddit thread where they said it's FINE!"
He looked at me like I was speaking Greek but ordered it anyway. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think when you set it down is when it maps out the strategy and starts vacuuming. I don't think it remembers your room always and then freaks out and blows up if you move it lol.
The Neato does snap at you when you pick it up, but it's no big deal. Her screen says "put me back down on the floor." I move quickly when this happens, just in case she has the ability to come after me. LOL.
We have mainly hardwood but there are a few throw rugs. One rug is super thick, she has no problem going up onto the rug and coming back down. It crosses thresholds like a champ. We have a big gap between the hardwood and vinyl because H has to trim the door to put the threshold in, and Ms. Neato just cruises over and up it. The only issue we have is making sure we've picked up stuff off the floor (i.e. dog toys) so she doesn't suck them up.
We got the Neato because it was the best ranked for pet hair. I love her, she does a great job. Although the filter is small and we have to empty it every time she vacuums.
Ok since I like to live life dangerously I set it to clean. ETA it's going in a pattern, in rows. It navigates around the furniture nicely. I think I'll mop the dining room when it's done.
The reviews said it sounded like a jet engine. That's ridiculous, it's nowhere near as loud as my dyson, I have the radio on and I can still hear over the neato.
Breaking update: I'm live on the scene. It navigates pretty well. It ran over some cables under my computer desk, they didn't get stuck or anything he just kept going. The corner of the living room has all DSs big toys and neato edged around those fine. Malcolm is on the scene supervising the procedures.
Omg it totally tried to cross over the baby gate opening. It got halfway over and got stuck so it backed itself up and kept going. I admire your courage neato.

Lol, mine came on Wednesday and I used it for the first time ever yesterday. The dog completely ignored it, but my H and I followed it around the house in awe, lol. "Look! He's going into the kitchen now!" The only problem I've had so far is it said it was finished when there was still the front part of the house to clean, and also it goes back home to charge A LOT. But hopefully that's just because it was the first time it was used. I will have to think of a better place to charge him so that he knows there is more house to clean, lol.
Ok mine cleaned the first floor. Overall happy with it but it didn't get the edges of the room very well. I don't know if that's because I didn't charge it the full 12 hours and it got pooped or what.
I have a Roomba and I move it from floor to floor daily. it takes, literally, ten seconds.
Indeed. And I don't know about the Neato (which I'd never even heard of before) but I think the Roomba doesn't exactly map its route and remember where it's been, but rather just knows where it is and where it's been relative to the position of the docking station.

the newest model does; this is a revision from the older ones.
The Neato does map out its route, unlike most Roombas, I could see how moving it from floor to floor would be a problem. It will probably get done eventually but it will take FOREVER because it can't learn how to be efficient. They take a pretty long time to vacuum as it is.
