I sponsor a family in NM. There are 8 kids from kinder to HS. The little kids are easy because I can go off my niece's list but for the older kids, I have no idea.
So far I am sending:
Pencils Pens and sharpeners 3 ring binders w/ paper Highlighters Pocket folders
Last year I sent backpacks for all 8 kids, plus some calculators for ms/hs kids.
We have specific lists the kids buy (for middle school, not so much for high school).
Here is what the 8th grade was sent:
Notebook/binder colors listed are optional for Color Coding 4 1" 3- ring binder (if possible: 1 Red, 1 Green, 1 Purple, 1 Blue) 1 1 ½” D-ring 3 ring binder (if possible: Orange) 4 set dividers – plastic sets of 5 with pockets 1 set dividers – plastic sets of 8 with pockets 1 Mead 5-Star spiral 3 subject notebook College Ruled (if possible: 1Green) 1 Spiral of Graph Paper (if possible: 1 Red, 2 Spiral notebook 70 sheet college ruled with 3 holes to fit in binder (if possible: 1 Orange, 1 Black for Health,) 4 loose leaf notebook paper - college ruled 4 highlighters - narrow yellow 1 ruler – 12” both inches & cm. 1 Box Crayola 24 count colored pencils
1 blue/black ballpoint pens package 12 3 red pens for grading 1 green pen for World Languages 3 packages mechanical pencils 3 pack 1 package white or multi-colored 3x5 index cards 100 cards 6 Dry Erase markers – black, fine point, low odor.
Geometry students only: Protractor Compass (preferably drafting/mapping quality)
****Use last year’s Health binder. If unavailable get: *1” 3-ring black binder *12 plastic dividers with pockets (2 packages to add up to 12 dividers)
oh target and office depot are running huge graphing calc sales right now, as is EA Education. Get the TI84+ if you decide to go that route. Thats the one most schools use now. BUT, I wouldn't assume they need one. Many schools provide them, especially in lower income areas.
