I pick up so that floors and surfaces are clear and can be cleaned. I want her spending her time cleaning and not just straightening up and/or moving things so that she can clean.
I put toys away cuz I don't want them to get overly mixed up with a quick put away and don't want her to spend time organizing. I also make sure the sink is clear so she can clean it and isn't doing dishes. Then we also pickup in general. I try to not obsess though because over time they'll learn your house and get better at figuring out what's best to do where, and also i know I'll forget it's cleaning day one day and they'll see the craziness in full and need to feel like they could deal.
We used to have a cleaning service (team of 3 from a chain company) and we picked up clutter before they arrived. It was a rule, actually. The precleaning was actually stressful and part of the reason we stopped using a service, lol. Total FWP, huh?
I pick up everything from the floor/surfaces, and make sure all of the dishes are in the dishwasher (I turn it on as I'm leaving so that I come home to clean house and clean dishes).
I just pay her for 3 hrs, which gets me deep cleaning for the bathrooms, kitchen, and floors, but I still do windows and surfaces, so I do those just before she comes or just after.
Having her really forces me to keep up on the house, which is good for me
I make sure the surfaces are clutter free and laundry is put away etc, so they don't have to move stuff around to clean under it. It's a good way to force me to declutter and organize at least every other week.
Yes, we try to declutter and straighten things up. DS knows that Monday night, the playroom gets entirely picked up. I try to make sure the dishes are all done. I don't always get to it, but as said above - I don't want her to spend her time washing my dishes. I want my stove and kitchen floor cleaned instead!
I put all the stuff on my bathroom sink away. She always does this if I don't, so I figure that's 30 seconds that I can save her.
Yes, in that I pick up everything, toys, dishes, books, all laundry put away, etc. I want her to be able to deep clean under all of my furniture etc. And this enables her to do that.
Everything is totally and completely picked up and put away.
Same. Usually it takes us about 10-15 minutes to get the house ready to be cleaned.
This. I love that it keeps me accountable. If it takes me 30 minutes to pick up one week I know I have no one but myself to blame and I try harder for the next few weeks. I never "clean" anything. In fact the night before my cleaning lady comes I don't even scrub down the counters after dinner. She must think I live with food on my counter all week
I pick up and put up as much as I can. I also want her cleaning and not organizing my stuff. I have left dishes in the sink before and she washes them, but I try and throw them in the dishwasher before she comes so she's not doing my dishes. She'll make my bed if I don't, so I try to do that too. Sometimes I forget or am running late so I just leave it it I do spend the night before picking up and putting up laundry/dishes.
