Oh, and our school has had delays for power/water related issues. Never would have learned that without getting a call or checking my email. And while I usually check my email before school, it's not 100%.
That's a good point plus it makes sense that the computer systems couldn't call with just actual emergencies and have to call with everything. I concede.
well my school did opt in. you had to give them your number to be in the list. but what's the difference? the amount if time you spent justifying yourself on here you could have shot an email to the office administrator and said. please remove my number xxx-xxx-xxxx from phone system.
personally It's a great way to contact parents/guardians quickly with the same message. after sandy hook, I think every school needs a system in place for lock downs and such. we have had 2 lockdowns in the past year. one being escaped convicts. another being an unwelcome visitor in the area. I have been really glad to get that message of why the lock down instead of waiting for the news.
Uh because just making a phone call wouldn't have provided mindless entertainment?
I also agree with phone systems for lockdowns. We had one this year too when police were chasing a car theif. I don't think everyone needs a call at 4am when schools delayed because of snow. Most can figure it out by looking outside and can confirm with phone/internet/tv.
[
Well, I certainly can't "figure it out" by looking outside. It depends on a lot of factors. I like the phone call.
I quit. I don't know why you can't open your mind at all and take in what others are saying here.
What's your problem?
Come on man CJ...I was trying to guess how many pages long this thread was going to end up. If you quit, others might follow suit and so far...I'm guessing a few more pages.
Are you seriously attacking CJ?
Who cares if this thread goes on? It is a message board and that's kind of the point.
I hate the calls too and I, personally, don't need them. So after the first time I got a call, I saved the number and programmed it to a silent "ring". Et voila.
Our system doesn't allow opt-out and I have to sleep with my phone on and nearby because I'm a doula and I'm on call 24/7. But somehow I managed to make it work without inconveniencing any other parents at our school.

You have changed my life. Just set this up. Thanks.
LOL at shimmery trying to be feisty and then backtracking.
I wasn't trying to be feisty...seriously it was a joke. I think I have an easy enough time being blunt but apparently not so much with sarcasm or jokes.
We're reading and inferring tone based on context?
What? Is that a question or a typo?
Well, I was answering you but also indicating my own confusion as to why you even asked that. Have you seriously never seen anyone do that on this board?
