La Gloria at the pearl brewey is good. One of our favorite places when we lived there was Tre Trattoria. We also frequented max's wine dive and 20 Nine at the Quarry. Local coffee was also a regular stop for us.
There is a farmers market at Pearl on Saturdays that is usually pretty good.
The Missions national park is interesting, mission San Jose I think has the visitors center.
The Japanese tea garden is pretty, we used to walk through there if we were at the zoo, and then grab bbq at the place down the street.
Ditto a trip to Gruene! We only lived there a year, but the food is the highlight of San antonio I think. Lots of great food there! Except pizza:/. We never really found a pizza place we liked.
I was just there a couple weeks ago. I stayed in a Suite Hotel (I think a Marriott) a block from the Alamo. We just ate steak one night & Mexican the next at restaurants on the River Walk. They were good but I can't remember the names. I love SA...it's got such a cool/artsy vibe. Sorry not much help! I just like that place.
Magnolia Pancake Haus!!!! it's the best breakfast place ever! they're known for their pancakes (really light and fluffy and melt in your mouth) and their pfannekuchen (like an apple fritter), but I go for their benedicts and french toast. highly recommend you get there early, within an hour of opening.
other than that, DH and I just go on the Riverwalk and eat wherever looks good.

Hole in the wall, best tacos on the planet Earth: Taco Taco on Hildebrand & McCullough (bfast and lunch only) or Panchitos (right across the street) if Taco Taco isn't open.
Fancy Mexican: La Paloma Blanca. Ten times better than anything on the river walk.

This has changed! Lots of yummy pizzerias now. Dough and Barbaro are fantastic! Tre makes a good pizza too.

Oh i forgot about dough! We did love that place, didnt love having to wait hours :/. If we went we tried to go at off times bc the wait could be so ridiculous.
We were in Austin a few weeks ago and went to San Antonio for the day. We ended up stopping at the Natural Bridge Caverns on the way back to Austin and really enjoyed the tour.
We are lame and just used Marriott points to stay at the Marriott on the river walk. I wanted to stay at Mokara, but almost 1k in hotel rooms for a quick weekend trip was too much for me to stomach. We will have a car. How long does it take to get to Gruene? Perhaps we can overcome our laziness.
Brunch = stuffed French toast, eggs Benedict, etc. I love breakfast tacos, but I feel like it's not special for weekends. Clearly I eat them too often.
Gruene is 30? minutes north on I-35 and just to the west of New Braunfels.
I think we've stayed at the Marriott on the RW and it was nice. We've also stayed at La Cantera and loooooved it. The concierge there is the person who gave us the rec for Magnolia for breakfast/brunch.
