I agree with you on 90% of that. Specifically loving the formula keurig and hating wubbanubs. lol
Kind of like brides to be who register for 355423 kitchen things because they have grand dreams of cooking elaborate dinners every night and entertaining multiple times on the weekend. Turns out their eating frozen pizza six months in like the rest of us.
Yeah, we registered for every variety of wine glass. 12 of them. My uncle BOUGHT THEM ALL. I have wine glasses in boxes that will only ever be used if I host a GBCN convention, lol.
Yes! Some of the things I've judged: registering for way too many of one thing without knowing how baby will like it e.g. 20 bottles from one brands, overpriced stuff (I'm looking at you $150 baby blanket that isn't even personalized), lots of clothes and shoes, and useless items like the Baby Bullet because there is also an invention called a blender.
I didn't register for diapers at all, but I do stock up on sizes ahead of time. I had like 800 size 2 diapers when all was said and done and I have at least 500 each of size 3 and 4.
To be fair though, I haven't bought them all myself. My mom brings a box e/o week or so, and buys all of DD's wipes. #soMM

my sister wants to get me that stupid thing. I was like, um, I have a blender. AND a food processor. and she wanted to get me that formula Keurig too. I said that I plan to EBF and if I need to use formula, I'll mix it myself. ^o)
No, but only because I do all of my friend's registries for them. I'm an obsessive researcher and they just trust my choices. I've probably done 20+ registries at this point, no complaints yet!

Oh yes, my friend did that too. A dozen glass bottles that her DD refused and she couldn't take to DC.
I am hyperventilating at the thought of having hundreds of diapers IN EVERY SIZE. Some that M won't wear for TWO YEARS. OMG.
I really, really appreciated having a bunch of size 1s around, and NB size is tricky as some newborns are born too big. But I certainly wouldn't want a bunch of size 2 and beyond.
Stores give terrible advice. BBB told me to register for like 200 items?
I think this is a large part of it. When I was getting married, I was advised to register for # of invited people times 6. That way, they would have adequate choices for the shower and wedding. Um, no.
My mom invited like 400 people to our wedding. LOLOL
I would need examples of the weirdness before I could judge. I always assume they have the usual stuff because they are buying it themselves. Like I didn't put bottles on my registry because I waited until he was born and bought one of a couple different kinds to try. We bought the car seat and furniture ourselves so I didn't put that stuff on. And I bought all my own breastfeeding stuff and didn't register for any of that.
I'm also with you @justdairy, save for the RNP. I still don't know what I'm supposed to use those A&A blankets for. They aren't big enough/thick enough for playmats.
I think it would be different if I had kids who liked swaddles or who liked those blanket sleeper things. Both of mine shrieked bloody murder in them and were busting out of the hospital swaddle even.
I'd honestly probably love a RNP if I felt a need for one. That I do understand. I just had a nice bouncer my SIL gave me and the kids were fine in it, so I never branched out. Both of my kids have always been just fine in the crib (Well, DS sort of but to be fair, he doesn't sleep anywhere..haha).
pooh8402 - I sat down and compared an older edition of Baby Bargains to the newest edition that came out right after my shower and was surprised to see that it was nearly identical (word-for-word) and almost all the recommendations were the same between the two books. So I think you'll be just fine getting whatever edition is already out (or even an older copy).

I'll be over. I was/am a bride who loves my kitchen and loves to cook. I got through a fair amount of kitchen stuff myself but at the end of the day, it's like the same five things I use over and over and over again.
I have tons of wine glasses and drinking glasses and serving dishes. I will say I saved a decent amount and now years later when my originals have started to break, the backup is nice. It's like getting married all over again.

Yeah, I avoided this problem by having 212 and like 10 other GBCNers look at my registries and critique them. Plus several IRL friends.
But I LOVE to registry stalk - weddings, babies, whatever!
I have a baby shower for a friend and I didn't even look at her registry (though I may now, just to look at and mock) and put together a medicine/essentials kit, including Tylenol, Advil, Desitin, petroleum jelly, etc. I wanted stuff I knew she'd use and may forget until it's 2:00 and your 4 month old has a fever.
I've never given my kids any medicine (unless you count vitamin d & iron). I don't use rash cream, since I cloth diaper, and have no idea what to use petroleum jelly for. But I do think it's really thoughtful to consider things that are really useful, but just things on the registry.
Yes! My cousin's daughter registered for four pnps, five high chairs, probably fifty bibs. I wanted to ask how many babies she was having. The only thing I could figure out was she was getting high chairs and other big equipment for both grandparents houses?
At my baby shower one of my cousins (mom of five) told me she was impressed by my Baby registry and it looked like the registry of an experienced mom. I was so proud lol.

Whenever I see that I'm suspicious that what they're really asking for is cash.

You're right, but we've also discussed these sorts of things before and I'm pretty sure she'll use almost all of the items. If I didn't think she'd necessarily use them (for instance, if I knew she was cloth diapering, I would have passed on the Desitin for sure) I wouldn't have put it in. I'm also including a gift receipt in case she doesn't want/need anything there.
And I've found petroleum jelly GREAT for dry skin. I'll put it in A's cheeks (they've been dry from teething and just the air in our apartment) then actually rub the excess off on my hands and it's been helping with my dry hands as much as her dry cheeks.

I wasn't a formula feeder so I can't weigh in on how tedious it is to make bottles in the MOTN, but it seems like it's one of those products that you can decide later if you absolutely need or not. I have no space for extra appliances.
Though I do get a little annoyed when I go to buy a shower gift and the mom-to-be has very little on the registry, most of it isn't even sold at the brick-and-mortar store, and what is sold in the store is either $5 (with nothing relating to each other well enough to make a basket) or $200.
I'm sure some people judged my registries. I had a largish personal shower and a huge work shower. After my work shower, I had to add a lot of stuff to my registry because very little was left so some of the stuff was random and for toddlers.
I also found that most of my preferences had more to do with what worked for my own child. DD hated the bouncer but I'd hardly judge someone for registering for a bouncer. I find the "I like less baby stuff" to be mildly obnoxious. I'd have loved to have "needed" less baby crap around my house but DD was colicky and I'll be damned if I'm going to not use a swing just to have less crap around. If your kid didn't need it, that's great, but I don't think it's crazy for someone to register for lots of things not knowing what their child might take to.

When I registered at Buy Buy Baby the lady who set up our registry told me that she gets a perk/bonus for how many items we added to our registry.

I use them as nursing covers. And we swaddled in them for a while.
What gets me are the Amazon registries with, say, the 2-star rated item with reviews saying the thing never worked right/stopped working after two uses/etc., when there's an alternative, comparably-priced item with glowing 4.5-star reviews. WHY would someone register for the one that's obviously crappy?

I've used a bunch of this stuff, but agree strongly that one parent's essentials are another parent's fluff. A friend sent us a been there done that essentials kit which was super sweet. But I have unopened gas drops and gripe water and some other random things like that because I don't get the point.
