We are selling our house and the closing date is 3 weeks from tomorrow and I haven't packed a thing. Even worse, we accepted the offer at the end of January so I've had extra long to start packing, but nope, I haven't done a thing. We are building a house that won't be done until August so we are temporarily moving to an apartment, and I'm definitely procrastinating deciding what goes in storage and what will go to the apartment with us. Tell me to get my butt in gear!
And if anyone has tips for adjusting to living in a small space with a kid and dogs after having a big living space I'd love to hear them.

We downsized with a child and I find that regular purging is essential. It becomes necessary because I just don't have any place to put things anymore. I've been forced to become a minimalist and it's not a bad thing.
Get packing! Get two different colors of tape so it's easy to tell which boxes go to the apartment & which go to storage.
As far as downsizing, plan to spend more time outside of your house. Walks, parks, restaurants, kids' programming at the library/Michael's/Home Depot, etc.
Definitely get cracking now. I hate packing too so I feel your pain. We had to sell our house and move within a month and a half recently due to DH's work transfer.
Didn't have enough time to find a house here in Florida so we are renting a condo for a year. We sold and gave away a ton of stuff. The first week was an adjustment for sure. We went from a 2 story/3 bedroom big backyard, to a 2 bedroom, no backyard condo. I've got my 3 girls in one room and a baby on the way. The rooms are spacious so the girls have plenty of space, but let's just say I can't wait to be back in a house again! It's just for a year so we'll survive.
I'm moving in 3 weeks as well. H and I bought a townhouse because our current landlord is selling our rental unit. So I have to put up with showings while trying to pack. I'm having friends over this coming Saturday to help me pack because my H is traveling out of the country for business next week and when he gets back we will be signing closing papers and moving. Eek!
Start purging now, I like to start with clothes. Also, start trying to eat as much from your pantry as you can tolerate so that you don't have to move that stuff. For storage pack and mark (tape or different color markers work well) any seasonal and entertaining stuff that you definitely won't need in an apartment.
Also, if you need boxes look on CL. I got great moving boxes on there. I somehow stumbled upon a lady who had just moved into a million dollar house and had bought the fancy moving boxes. LOL
Definitely get rid of anything you havent used. I'd keep the bear essentials and put the rest in storage. Once you move back into a house, it'll be like christmas without the $$ spent.
