My SIL has a habit I consider peculiar. She returns anything you bring her and I wonder if I'm the odd one or she is, so I'm wondering, if someone brought you the following, would you return it:
You borrowed 1 egg or one cup of sugar from close friend family. Do you return one within a couple days?
You received a gift of food from someone in a glad ware (not Tupperware or glass but take and toss) container. Do you return the gladware?
Someone drops off books in a handled store shopping bag (like a department store type bag). Do you return that bag?

This would only occur with a next door neighbor, and it would depend. I would offer, or offer to pick up more of whatever it was when I was at the store, but for something like sugar or a tablespoon of baking soda, the neighbor would probably decline.
Gladware and paper bags - No, I would not make a special effort to return those. I would probably use them to either pass food or things back to the friend, to to another friend, but I would not go out of my way to return a paper bag or Gladware.
I would not replace an egg/sugar/flour/etc from a neighbor, I would extend the return offer, should they ever need something. I would return Gladware, Tupperware, or glassware. My mom often sends us home with leftovers (like every week) in her tupperware....if I didn't return it we'd be overrun by tupperware and my mom would have none. I would return a reusable bag/tote but not a paper or plastic bag.

The gladware is the only thing I'm iffy on...my MIL sends us food all the time or we take leftovers when we eat at her house (she insists). If it's in the type of disposable thing that's like a cottage cheese container/chinese food container, etc. that was cleaned out and reused, I toss it. But if it's actual glad or the ziplock brand stuff, I wash and give back. I probably wouldn't bother if it was a one time thing, but since it happens frequently, and I see her frequently, then I do.
