I did not pursue any medications as remedies for my milk supply issues mostly because neither my OB nor the pedi ever suggested them. I have read here that it seems that people sometimes obtain these without prescriptions? If you did do that, were you nervous about taking them without a doctor's monitoring, or did you tell your doctor about taking them? Just wondering as I'm not sure what I might do if I have another baby.
In Canada, you can get Domperidone from a doctor. I didn't need it, but if I did, I would have tried it. I would tell my doctor, in case they did want to do any monitoring, but it has a very good safety record.
I didn't take any, but I did ask my first OB about them. If you do go this route, I'd definitely mention what you're taking to your doctor. My OB had concerns regarding side effects for me, especially when balancing the effects with the benefit since my supply was SO low.
farmvillelover might be able to chime in with her experience.
I asked my OB for a prescription for domperidone, they didn't offer. My LC suggested it. I had to get it filled at a special compounding pharmacy. I was less worried about that one than reglan based on the side effects and blood brain barrier stuff.
I took Domerperidone that I ordered online and didn't tell my doctor about. When I was pregnant last year I mentioned taking it to my mw and she was like "oh yeah, I have heard of that, a doctor here is taking it as well".

My lactation consultant pushed domperidone, but couldn't write the script (I am in Mass and compounding pharmacies will make it for you here). I got my OB to write the script after explaining to him what it did, and that my LC actually urged me to get it. Once I found out what it was going to cost thru a compounding pharmacy, I promptly ordered it from an online place in Canada.
I am not totally sure whether or not I told my Dr. I was taking it, but technically he wrote the script that I didn't fill, so he was aware. It helped me greatly.
I don't have any personal experience, but I have heard that it has recently gotten much harder to get dom w/o an Rx, even ordering internationally. So anecdotes you hear even from a few months ago may be out of date.

I got a prescription for Dom peridone from a naturopath. Two doctors I spoke to first said that it was a good drug and they would prescribe it if they could. I would be more worried about taking Reglan. The DP has helped with my supply.

So my situation was not because of milk supply, but I have had experience with both Reglan and Dom. A few years ago I was having horrible abdominal pains that they couldn't figure out the cause of (ultimately they found out that it was my gall bladder). I was diagnosed with slow gastric emptying and put on Reglan. 2 days later I was in the ER with an allergic reaction having difficulty breathing. The dr then put me on Dom that we had to order from Canada. I didn't have a reaction to it, but was scared to death that Feds we're going to bust me for illegal drugs. Totally irrational. Anyway, just wanted to throw out my experience. Reglan is some scary shit and now thanks to it, if I am in the hospital I get to wear the bright red "allergy" bracelet.

When I was prescribed it from Canada, my doctor said something about the FDA not seeing enough long term studies even though he assured me it was safe. Not sure how truthful it was. I was desperate, so I gave it a whirl. It turned out that my stomach was not the issue so I went off it.
I took both Reglan and Dom. Dom helped me more and I got it without a r/x. I was fine in doing that since I knew that it was going to be hard to get otherwise.
mannah it's hard to get because it's not specifically marketed to increase supply, it's marketed/prescribed for other reasons.
