we're just hitting toddler boy, but i've bought ahead for summer and fall and i'm happy with my current inventory.
for each season, i have... 5-6 play bottoms (knits or fleece) 8-10 play tops (long or short sleeve t-shirts) 2-3 nice bottoms (jeans or cotton) 2-3 nice tops (button downs) 2-3 hoodies/sweaters 2-3 pjs
for summer i have... - 2 swim trunks - 2 reusable swim diapers - 1 long sleeve rash guard need a sun hat and sandals (waiting to see what size he is before i buy sandals since they are so season specific here)
for fall/winter i have... - 1 fall coat - 1 "dressy" coat - 2 hat/mits sets need a play coat, snow pants, and boots
i tend to have a few extras in shirts and pjs around holidays and i always assume i'll buy a few things in his current size because i see them and love them.
he's not wearing real shoes yet since he's not walking, but i've bought ahead in size 5 and 6 - 1 sneaker and 1 "dressy" pair of each. and when i say "dressy" i mean Toms canvas boots. we aren't fancy at all over here
i can get away with a lot of buying ahead because shorts, sandals, and swimwear are the only things really season specific. i do buy those ahead if they are cheap enough that i can consign or sell locally without taking a hit.

Leo is a weird size, so I'm realizing I can't buy ahead for him. I bought a bunch of 24 mo. and 2T stuff that will very likely be way too big this summer and fall.
J probably has enough outfits for me to not do his laundry for about a month. Plus a lot more shirts. It's going to be cold here until May though. He'll probably be in 12 months until about that time too. I don't have much in 18 months but I plan to get at least 5 pairs of shorts and 10-15 shirts plus whatever cute outfits I find. I think I also have ~6 rompers. I plan to get more, because they are super cute.
No idea on count, but I love buying clothes! I need to buy more t shirt tops for the summer, but he has a bunch of shorts, polos, and button downs. I loooove little boys in button down shirts. And plaid shorts. And seersucker. Generally, preppy little boy clothes make me swoon.
