Are these annoying or is it ok to share?
Now that DH is working in an office with other architects, they keep suggesting things to him. This one is southwest of downtown in Mexicantown/village area. Coworker said nice neighborhood, lots of kids, close to river, and lots to walk to. I might drive by tomorrow.
We'd try to get it for much less. It is two flats now: 2br, 1ba each. I'm thinking we'd want to turn it into two units (one 3br, 2ba for us) and (one 1br 1ba) income property (DHs sister?).
It's got tons of potential. Does the floor plan work to easily change from two 2b1ba to the 3b2b 1b1b you're envisioning? Do you mind being so close to your neighbors?
Great bones. Love the built ins. I have been in Detroit a couple times over the past few years for work and have seen the great architecture in the downtown and adjacent areas. It's sad to see beautiful old homes and buildings not being cared for, so I love the idea of buying one on the cheap and fixing it up!
It is a bit reminiscent of a house you may have fixed up before, no?
I really like it, looks like it has good bones and despite bathrooms and kitchens probably needing full guts, it looks like the bedrooms/living areas are mostly cosmetic changes at first.
Really cute! Love the built-in buffet. It looks like the "no-updates-in-several-decades" type of house, which is actually preferable, IMO, to re-doing or un-doing things people have messed up (like 80s popcorn ceilings). Love the original interior doors and the buffet!
That yard, though. Yeesh.
Depending on the layout, I might be tempted to make it all single family. Can you find out of it was originally a SFH? If so, it should probably be not too difficult to turn back. Also, you might be able to do a 5 bedroom or 4 bedroom + office, or 4 bedroom + family room if the upstairs living room was an original bedroom, you know?

So I just drove by it and I really wanted to hate it but I pretty much love it the balcony and front porch are really amazing. The neighborhood is okay there are some boarded up houses but I talked to a neighbor about it and it seems like there are a lot of new people moving in. I might schedule a time to go see it. Also the neighbor I talk to knows the guy who owns it and told me that the guy will pretty much take whatever for it so that could be really awesome

That is all good news - well except the boarded up houses, but you can always do those as side projects for a business someday. Plus it's good that your DH's coworkers also likes the area.
I feel selfish b/c I really just want you to keep working on houses forever and share your progress b/c I wish I could have your style. But even if you built a house, I'd want to emulate your style.
It looks like you could do alot with that property. Depending on the subdivision is (up and coming etc) and you could get the price lower it might be worth it. You could really make it your own since it looks like there's at least something to do in every room.
I'm DYING at the price though - UGH - something like that where I live would be easily 300-350k with the same amount of work to be done.
bunnymendelbaum do you have a realtor you love? My brother and fiancée are trying to buy a house in the Indian Village area and they're looking for a new one.

So far I've talked to a couple, but got the best help from David at O'Connor. Are they looking at a specific house? There are a few good ones in Indian Village right now.
