DD's bday is in a couple weeks. She will be 4 yo. One of the gifts we want to get her is a scooter. I think those toddler ones are too small now. What would you recommend - a 2 or 3 wheel scooter?
I've seen 3 wheel ones with a skinnier base. We have the red rider and she's probably too big for that (not size wise, but "maturity" wise) but a razor type would pro ably still be too wobbly for her.

If she hasn't had one before, I'd go with a 3 wheel scooter, but not like the radio flyer ones that are good for the 2 year olds. We have a y-glider one. Ds also got a 2 wheel razor for his 5th birthday this past summer, and he does play on it, but he still prefers the 3 wheel one for serious zooming around. I do recommend the y-glider, and another brand my friends like are mini-kick I think?

We have a Micro Mini for DD (given for her 4th birthday), and will be getting the same for DS' birthday later this month. I can't say enough good things about it. It is an awesome scooter. There is a slightly bigger model, but I think the only difference is the size of the base and the height of the bar. I'm pretty sure the bar is adjustable on the bigger one. DD will continue to ride her mini through this summer at least. Our neighbors' 6-year-old (at the time) had the bigger model last summer.
We also have the micro mini kick. Both kids have them (3.5&5.5) DD is older and she has the bigger version, the one with the adjustable T Bar, she got hers rich after she turned 4. She can also ride the smaller one but this one will grow with her and last much longer. Micro scooters have 2 wheels in the front and one in the back, and yiu lean to steer it. These two features give it a very short learning curve. DS has been riding his sinc he was 22m.
Thanks for all the replies. We ended up getting her a 2 wheel scooter. The 3 wheel scooter I was looking at had a maximum weight of 45lbs. She is already 40lbs. If she can't handle 2 wheels then I will exchange it for something else.

Hope you got her a helmet. Those are wobbly (well, hope you got her a helmet anyway, but especially since you got a 2 wheel scooter.

working on that next. her head is too big for a toddler helmet so I plan on getting her one that fits her head.
I didn't know you could get fitted with a helmet. I will have to check that out.
I didn't either until lachute was giving recs for bike helmets In search of the brand she suggested I had to go to our local bike shop and they fitted him and got him Into a good helmet. In contrast the ones I tried at TRU all had poor fit
