We have a company doing some costly home improvement work for us (several thousand dollars). When the initial guy came to assess and give the cost, he said he needed a check or my card number for a 50% deposit. Sure thing. I gave my debit card number.
A few hours later, the office called to schedule the work. She asked if she could have my card number even though I'd given it to the field guy b/c it would be easier and quicker since she processes payments. Sure thing.
A few days later, last Thursday, she calls back and says she accidentally ran my card once when I gave it to her (I saw that on my online banking), but then also ran it again that day when the field guy submitted his paper work. She went to cancel it right away realizing shed charged me two deposits, but because of the nature of electronic payments, my bank has been showing a hold on this money ever since (Thursday - Monday). I'm guessing tomorrow that it will clear/be voided and the money will go back in my account, but I'm a little peeved that so much money has been tied up for 5 days when I wasn't expecting it.
Is this a let it go sort of thing? Probably, right?
It's annoying, but seems like a fairly honest mistake that was owned up to quickly and is being resolved.
Meaning if other people would think about asking for a small credit of some sort because of the inconvenience caused by their administrative mistake? Kind of like when the shipping is late on an item, people will ask for a small credit equal to the shipping to combat the inconvenience?
