I just joined the BST because I saw someone's fb pics with a really cute elephant tula. The first post that comes on my newsfeed after I am allowed in the group:
FSOT half standard yellow weft twill deag with DW hood and reach straps. $850ppd
Ok - first of all - what does any of that mean? deag? I feel like tula people are some sort of cult. And the price? w.t.f
Maybe I should just stick to my beco. :^)
ETA - someone commented "steal" !! Are they being sarcastic?

lol, yes. some of the ones from wraps can go for a LOT.
for sale or trade. weft twill I imagine was the fabric of the wrap, Deag is the pattern. DW hood I am not sure though
Even some of the canvas ones will go for $$. I sold my Aurora for more than I paid for it, like 2 months later, because I wanted a Keeghan's storm instead
"yellow weft" means the cross threads on the wrap are yellow "half" might mean half-buckle - buckle waist "standard" is the size "deag" is a type of girasol wrap
And yes, people pay this, and yes, they are crazy. Just get a normal one. They're not even really worth buying used, generally. Get it new and call it a day.

half actually means that the wrap is backed in canvas. full would be all wrap, no canvas back
eta- also half has canvas straps and waist. full is all wrap
By the way this $850 baby carrier, that your baby is going to chew and drool on, should come with a free badge that says "I have more money than sense."
I mean I am pretty go with the flow about other peoples' choices but this is straight up crazy to me.

Ah. This is not my rabbit hole. Extra cray-cray for not even being all wrap, then.

and omg "stash shot Saturday" on the Tula love board- holy shit, some of these people have 10- 15 + carriers. I can't even imagine
Some of these are super hard to find wrap conversions (so they're made from wraps, you're paying for the tula, the wrap, and the cost of making a status symbol).
Yikes. I have a Tula but I am not this kind of Tula person.
ditto, I had to unfollow all of the FB pages, they were too crazy for me
Same here. I have a toddler tula after getting swept up in the hype last year and just now am I starting to prefer it over my ergo. Maybe I should sell it lol.
Why would one need 10-15 Tula carriers? They only have 2 sizes. Do people get them to match outfits or something?
Why do people need 100+ diapers? People are nuts. It's competitive and people like collecting them.
Plus some delusions about them being an investment and the resale value.
I mean, I have one and an Ergo but I can't see buying another one of the same brand/style. Like I could see getting a toddler size Tula, but I'm more likely to get the toddler extender things. Baby carrier as investment tool doesn't compute for me. I also know nothing about cloth diapers. When I saw that question, I thought to myself, 100 diapers lasts maybe 2 weeks, of course I have more than 100 around at a time.
It's just higher quality fabric. Maybe more comfortable, but really not if it's lined with canvas. Yes, tula makes them from wraps.
They're also stretchier so people say their bigger kids can last in them longer.
Yeah, but if you line it with canvas... it's as stretchy as canvas. It just LOOKS better and more expensive. The half-conversions are all about status symbols.
My husband is very tolerant of my spending habits. Very. If he saw I spent $850+ on a used baby carrier that has the same functionality as the brand new $160 version, he'd have my head checked at Bellevue.
I joined the group for one day. Cannot comprehend. Do these women have money trees in their backyards? I need someone with 10-15 $$$$ Tulas to post a budget, please and thank you. Lol

I have a full wrap conversion it's much more comfortable then my canvas and I use my tula every day. I paid retail ($310) for it and it's worth every penny. I'm more then getting my money's wirth.
I would never pay $$$$$$ for one, but there is a comfort difference.
I have, IRL, never seen anyone else with a Tula. Maybe once.
I have twice and both people made comments to me, like it was some sort of secret society. Weird.
I ran into two on the train through the Orlando airport. I was hot, exhausted, hugely pregnant and C was throwing a fit. These two chicks were like "OMG ANOTHER TULAAAAAA!"

I don't have lots of tulas, but I do have lots of carriers. 2 SSCs (boba for me, onya for DH), 4 wOven wraps (different sizes for different carries), 1 wrap conversion ring sling
I recognize this is unnecessary but as my baby has stolen my hobbies of running road races, blogging, and riding horses I allow myself this hobby.

I am pretty sure I glared.
I know someone who tells "tula in the wild! Ca-caw!!" whenever she sees someone wearing a Tula. I pointedly avoid wearing mine around her. I find it so obnoxious.

I can easily see spending lots of money on a baby carrier than clothes or a stroller or a car seat or diapers. I'd love to have a carrier to match my clothes!
