I'm truly not seeing the huge deal. People spend crazy amounts of money on dumb shit daily especially for hobbies. Whether it's baby related, car related, etc.

You don't think that baby carrier collecting is a remarkably weird hobby?
I do. And I own like 5 baby carriers (none have any value/prestige though).

I think there is way weirder crap that people collect.
And at least most people are using these carriers as opposed to the people that spend $$$$$ on random dolls that sit on a shelf. Or trading cards that are placed in a book.
Eh, I'd mock people that collect anything really. I just don't understand it at all. It's weirder to us when people want to collect something we own (at most) one of and are satisfied by.
the tula groups are crazy. i mean, i really, really like mine - we use it everyday, sometimes hours a day if we're out of the house a lot, but the level of enthusiasm from some people is insane.
R is a clingy kid and the tula is his safe zone. i'm happy to have a comfortable way to hold him and still have my hands free. i can see having two with as much as we use one, but still not enough to drop another $200.
i can't even fathom nearing $1k for a baby wearing device no matter how amazing it is supposed to be. good on them, i guess, for people willing to spend that much, but it will never be a choice i make.
I ran into two on the train through the Orlando airport. I was hot, exhausted, hugely pregnant and C was throwing a fit. These two chicks were like "OMG ANOTHER TULAAAAAA!"
I am pretty sure I glared.
I know someone who tells "tula in the wild! Ca-caw!!" whenever she sees someone wearing a Tula. I pointedly avoid wearing mine around her. I find it so obnoxious.
Someone did this to me once! I had no idea that was thing until that point.

I agree that people definitely have collections of weirder things, but this is crazy for me. I spent $260 on one and sold it soon after. I like my ergo better. I may get a toddler soon though since she's getting heavy! I'll probably get a canvas though.

When I went to my local BWI group, I remember the leader saying that the nicer baby carriers/wraps hold their value really well. My local chapter regulary has them going for that price.
I'm in a different carrier group-(Kinderpack) and the drama that goes on regularly regarding pricing is crazy. The admins to one added a $250 limit on the amount you can sell one for and people went crazy. The admin had to change her name on FB b/c of the threats and harassment. Over baby carriers!!
I know a lot of people are also buying them ( both Tula's and Kinderpacks) and flipping them in the $300-400+ range. there was a drama about people using bots to do this the other day. Crazy. I love my carriers but not that much.
DS has been sick with the Flu the last few days and I ran out of DVR shows to watch, so the drama in these baby carrier groups was the next best thing.

The Tula group is a total cult. I joined it hoping to find a Tula for less than retail - hah! Anything close to retail sells in about 10 seconds so unless I just stalk the page all day, I give up.
I'll admit I really want a discontinued Tula print (retro bikes) and have given actual thought to how much over retail I'm willing to pay.
The same person I know who ca-caws at other Tula wearers also flips Tulas regularly for big $$. Tula-ers are intense.
The most I've seen one going for lately was $1500. I did pay ~$30 over retail for mine, but it just boggles my mind. At least shoes and handbags aren't at direct risk for baby puke on them....?
Part of why I won't buy a tula is that I already have 3 carriers (beco gemini, sakura bloom ring sling and a stretchy wrap thing that isn't a moby but same thing - canadian brand)…I won't buy anymore because I CAN'T EVER DECIDE WHICH TO BRING AS IT IS. Essentially the beco and the ring sling live in our car because I can't ever decide which I will want to use…
Of course, I am sure if I had a tula I would only ever want to use the tula. Regardless, yo no tengo dinero...
I really don't get the ca-cawing and roll my eyes whenever I witness it. My local BWing group goes berserk whenever they see someone else BW in public and they even post pictures on the FB group trying to find out if they saw someone else in the group.
It makes me embarrassed to use my Tula sometimes. Or any baby carrier, really.
