What are you doing with your preschoolers this summer, assuming they have summer break? Seems a bit much (and way too expensive around here) to sign her up for more than one or two "camps• which is really just a week long class. People, especially working parents, around here fill up the whole summer with these one week or two week long camps and it's sooooo expensive. And unnecessary since I SAH, but three months is a long time to have no drop-off preschool...
I applied to teach summer school, so dd might continue with school five days a week. We will continue dance with a summer session and I think we will add swim lessons of I can find a convenient class.
We do swim lessons - which are daily for 3 weeks sessions. Most afternoons at the pool. Normal trips to zoo, museum, playgrounds. Week of VBS. 2 weeks down the shore. Probably another week away. We might do a 4 week ballet session for both girls.
I still haven't delved into the camp world. I thought this summer DD1 would want to go but she is saying no. I might try again w/ an art camp I think she'd like. I'm also trying to convince her to do a sport - any sport. Swim team, tennis lessons, soccer in the fall.
Our preschool has a 6 week session during summer so we will do that. Otherwise we will continue most of his normal activities which are swim lessons, gymnastics, toddler soccer. We will also be spending a lot of time having people over at our pool or going to the local pool. A few of the moms at preschool have been talking about a weekly summer playdate where the moms alternate so sometimes you help watch the kids, sometimes you drop them off at the play date.
There are so many things to do with preschoolers in the summer! We probably will do one week per month of camp through his preschool, just to keep him a bit in the routine. Other things we will do are: playgrounds with friends (so many in the area!), splashparks, picnics, hiking, trips to the beach, berry picking, walks to the duck pond, swim lessons, afternoons at the town pool, zoo visits, outdoor story hour...it goes on and on! I can't WAIT for summer - especially after this nightmare winter we have had!

I want to enroll Reese in a week long camp from 9-12. They have different age groups but the weekly theme is the same. The one I am eyeing is the week that theme is Egypt.
We are campers. DS1's school ends in late May, and we will do their camp for the June session. After the 4th of July he starts another camp through mid August.
Both are half days, four days a week. So afternoons/day off we do all the other stuff -- parks, sprayground, zoo, whatever.
My kid freakin loves camp, so we do it. I don't think it is necessary or anything, although he definitely thrives in the "out of the house everyday" routine.

Summer is tough because all our activities are on break. No school, no playgroup and no tot gym. So, we go to the library's summer reading program. They do a story, an activity, and then give the kids lunch. It's really nice. Another library 20 minutes away does kids yoga so we might do that and the "fancy" playgroup is in that town, too. I keep meaning to try it. It's the only activity that costs money, which is nice. Signing my 4 year old up for swim lessons and possibly his 2 year old brother if I can get the scheduling right. Swim lessons fill up crazy fast here. Lots of water table, sand box, kiddie pool time. After this winter, it will be especially nice! If the snow ever melts ....
Camping with my parents, cookouts, visits to a state park. We were also thinking of taking the kids to the ocean since they've never seen it. Maybe a trip to Boston to see the aquarium.
My plans? Cry. Become a raging alcoholic. Either. Both. I'm not sure yet. We don't do well with too much together time.
Summer break is soooo long. 16 weeks of terrible weather. I need to get my act together and plan something!
We will do a session or two of swim lessons since we spend a lot of time in the pool. That doesn't get us a break from each other though. We will probably do a week of ballet camp and drop off camp at Little Gym here and there. Otherwise there isn't much unless I want to commit to a full day of camp at her school. I don't want her gone all day every day though so we'll need to come up with other fun activities. This year at least DD has good friends from school and has already started to arranger her own play dates. That will help!
I'm seriously in denial about summer. How has this year gone by so quickly?
ETA: We have one family trip to the beach planned, too.
LOL that summer is tough - OMG, I die waiting for summer because we can be outside all the time. DS is happy literally playing with blades of grass and rocks in the backyard, we don't even need to go anywhere, as long as he's outside, he's happy!
What we'll do is our usual combination of play dates, going to early years centres (mostly on bad weather days), and walking over to the park. We're supposed to have a splash pad opening next to our park too, so that should be fun on the hot days.
On weekends when it's all three of us, we do bigger stuff like zoos, museums, etc.

We are lazy and just go to the beach everyday. We pack a bag lunch and sit under trees and watch the waves. Heaven. Ds plays tball but that ends on June. He's also joining golf but that's one night a week.
DD1 will do swimming lessons, continue with speech 2x a week and one or two weeks of VBS. DD2 will tag along to the pool and probably do lessons there as well. Otherwise we will do library story time, zoo, children's museum and lots of walks and park time. I also do a summer bible study so the girls will both go to the childcare there which includes stories, a lesson, and crafts.

I would totally do this if we were at the beach. And I definitely pull him from co for ling beach weekends.

She is taking two weeks of classes at the children's theatre and a one week art camp. The theatre classes are 10-12, 5 days a week, so still plenty of time to do normal summer stuff. Art camp is full days (9-3) for a week. She is doing it with a couple of friends and I thought it might be a good way to get her familiar with the longer day that she will have in kindergarten. She will probably also do 2 weeks of swimming (as will DS), and maybe soccer again if she wants. It is crazy expensive - I don't even want to think about how much we are spending. It's less than sending her to preschool over the summer, and at least kindie will be free, but oy. Someday we will have two wanting to do all this stuff.
We're just doing swim once a week and then the usual: zoo, parks, outside, museum sometimes, watch our house go up :0P, play with the cousins...chillin.
DS will be 3 in June. He's signed up or a four-week camp, which is really just two-3 hour classes a week for 4 weeks. the "theme" of the camp is Madagascar - they'll learn about the animals, "cook" and try new foods inspired by Madagascar, do water and outside activities, and the usual music/craft/reading stuff.
Summer plans include parks, splash pads, music in the park picnics, aquarium and time on the docks, hiking, camping... no organized classes for us. That'll come soon enough. Dd is turning 3 this month. There will be lots of time for summer camps ahead.
