So for a few months I was routinely waking up with a sore neck/upper shoulder area. Always the same muscles but not always on the same side. The problem went away for about 6 weeks when I got new pillows but has been back again this week. I am not thrilled with the pillows, they are down alternative from Costco and they seemed to lose their "bounce back"/shape really fast.
Would you try new pillows again or could it be something else I'm not thinking of?
I have been looking at memory foam ones on Amazon. I have only slept with down pillows for the last 10ish years so I'm nervous to switch, but it might be worth a shot. Thanks!

Could you be clenching your teeth while you sleep? I recently had a massage because I've been waking up with a stiff neck and the massage therapist said clenching could have caused my neck pain. I wear a dental night guard for clenching, so it's plausible. The massage totally helped, BTW.

It is entirely possible. I have a night guard too. But I like this advice--any excuse for a massage.

DH and I both got sick of feeling like our pillows got flat and unsupportive so quickly so we switched to memory foam pillows off Amazon about 9 months ago. It took a little getting used to but I really like mine now.

I had that too a few months ago. Pretty much my whole life I've slept on my stomach with one arm under my pillow. It wasn't until recently that I was getting a stiff neck from it, I think it was causing my muscles to be tense the whole time I was sleeping. I had to change how I sleep, now I sleep on my back or side & I don't have the pain. I also switched from a down pillow to a more supportive pillow.
I already answered you in the randoms thread, but OH OH OH if ever you were going to listen to me, today is the day. Buy a Tempurpedic neck pillow. Costs about $80 but SO WORTH IT. My intermittent neck pain is 100% gone. It also improved DH's snoring. I am also a petite side sleeper. I fucking love my pillow. I got it at BB&B with a 20% coupon.
