we saw the pedi this afternoon..
parainfluenza virus (can lead to croup) human metapnuemo virus (i think the dr. said bronchiolitis) coronavirus (sounds like what you get after you drink so much corona)(some kind of respiratory thing)
AND ......
a UTI.
I asked why the UTI didn't show up when we were at the hospital; the pedi said it showed up as e.coli on the urine culture - ...
so. now we have 10 days of antibiotics for the UTI.. and who knows how long for the viruses, but AT LEAST WE HAVE SOME ANSWERS. I feel so much relief, even though we are still dealing with the fevers.
DD has also developed a fun cough, so we are giving her zarabees cough syrup for that.
I'm so glad you have answers! I was hoping you got some soon! Did her fever break? J's finally did after two doses of antibiotics. I hope she gets better real soon.
Wow, that must be some kind of record. Hope she feels better very soon! How are you doing?
I am ok. I'm super relieved we have some answers - I still feel like I'm just waiting for her fever to spike again and another seizure to happen. I'm going to have to get over that, or I'm going to have a long life.

Her temp was 99.4 at the pedi's office - We've been doing tylenol/motrin every 3 hours since she woke up this morning - so I don't know if it's really had a chance to break.
The pedi said the virus' are what's causing the fever, so the antibiotics aren't going to help that at all. She's already had two doses of rocephin, which they told me is a powerful antibiotic - so, I think we are still just going to have to ride out the fever.. but, at least we have some reasons why her temp shot up to 105.
If it makes you feel any better, those are viruses that are around (we tested for them regularly) and she should fully recover without complications.
NIH has info on all those viruses and their courses, if you want to know length of shedding virus and stuff.
Glad you got some answers though. Poor girl
I did ask the pedi how she could get them.. and she basically said, "breathing." LOL. Ok. It's crazy town that she has 3, but, hey.. go big or go home.

Oh, the Pedi also said that the recommendation for kids under 4 that get UTIs is a renal ultrasound.. so, I guess I will need to set that up in the next week or so.
Any toddler moms been through that before? My friends son had one, but she was able to nurse him through it. Since we aren't nursing anymore, that's not an option.
Poor kid!! But at least you got some answers. I hope she is better soon.
Oh, and the uti makes sense. When e had roseola she specifically asked if I thought she may have had a uti. But the cbc ruled that out because blood count was normal.
Not a renal ultrasound, but DD had one on her head to look at a cyst. She didn't cry at all, and it took a good 5-10 min. I distracted her with snacks and books.

Poor thing! Hope she's feeling better soon! My DD has had two times now when she was sick and had really high fevers and with the most recent one in January she was diagnosed with a UTI. It didn't show up on the urine screen she got in the ER and we didn't know until they got her culture back 2 days later, when we were back at the doctors since she still had a really high fever and had stopped eating and drinking at that point.
She ended up in the hospital for four nights and she had a kidney ultrasound the first day, she was about 10.5 months at the time and did really well with it. It didn't take long for them to do and she stayed pretty still, but that's probably because she wasn't feeling well. Definitely bring something to hold her attention or distract her so she can stay still enough for the tech to get the images they need.
Unfortunately for us, her ultrasound showed excess fluid on her right kidney, so she had to have a urine study test done called a VCUG. Now that was much different and harder for both of us than the ultrasound but hopefully her ultrasound will be clear and you won't have to do additional testing.
if you have any other questions about the kidney ultrasound, let me know!
