I think they're tacky. I dislike the concept of dictating what gifts are given, or using gifts as "entry fees." The cost of diapers really has nothing to do with the dislike. You're still dictating what kind of gift your friends and family are to give you. Same with "book instead of a card" things. It's tacky.

Lol. I'm sure most men aren't too disappointed that they don't get to spend an hour at BRU picking out the perfect set of crib sheets and matching mobile.
Not the point. If someone is generous enough to get you a gift, you don't dictate what they give you.

I'm not a dad to be but if someone showed up at my husbands "diaper party" with some new swaddles or a thermometer we'd both be psyched.

This is just the guys getting together like a normal hangout except they're throwing a pack of diapers in the corner before they grab a beer. Guys celebrate differently.
Yes and no, DH never had one but we have friends that have. His friends kept offering to throw one but he declined. I think we may accept for #5 when he/she comes along Or I could be like SIL and throw my own 2nd shower and a diaper party for DH?

I've only heard of them for men. In our circle, they are BBQ's with lots of beer and occur while the women are all at the baby shower. After the shower, the women usually join up with the guys at the diaper party.
Lol @ "shaking down your friends." It like, $10 for a small thing of diapers. I'm guessing not many people feel shaken down over that.
We didnt/aren't having one of these but I think the concept is nice. I do not understand the hate.
Who are you to say that, though? You don't know the financial situations of all of your friends and family. People aren't likely to disclose when they are financially struggling -- it's embarrassing.

If I had a friend that I wanted to celebrate with that couldn't afford the "buy in" I'd let him come to my party anyways. I'm guessing you would too. It's not that big of a deal.
