We did a meet and greet with a terrier/dachshund mix. She was adorable, the perfect size. But she was so skittish, she wouldn't even come near us for a treat. She was not at all aggressive, but just so nervous she was shaking. We spent some time with her and decided it just wasn't a match. But the good news is that they will keep her as long as it takes to find her a home.
We are on the waiting list for a couple of more pups, so we just wait and see.

I'm sorry that one didn't feel right to you guys. Fingers crossed that one comes your way soon!
If it's any help, the one we just got was super skittish and basically sat in the laps of the fosters when she visited for our meet and greet. She's warmed up considerably over the past 2 days, and now is basically attached to my ankles.

Yeah that's how she was. I would feel like an ass though when we would have to leave her alone when we are at work. I feel like if we had a few good weeks with her (like in the summer, when we are home) it could work.
