I fucking hate Amelia bedelia. So I wouldn't read just for that reason, but if She likes it and it doesn't want to make you set yourself on fire then I think it's fine for a 2 year old
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
Shit. I gave this book as a birthday present like 3 hours ago. And now iI find out it sucks? Damn it MMM, you let me down on this one!
(Lol!)
I like her! I think she's pretty harmless and enjoy reading it. Each their own. And it's MMM of course we're going to complain about the popular and analyze it to death. Which while great fun I wouldn't worry about!

I don't hate it because it's popular I hate it because I have read it one million times!
Trust I am with the people here. I still read Dr Seuss. I actually miss him. Minus The Lorax. We read the Grinch today and I was like THANK GOD FOR THE BREAK FROM AMELIA BEDELIA
I get it. I was just just joking. Being sarcastic. DD is also obsessed with the Little Engine That Could. I made DH read it tonight. It might go missing for awhile too. I totally understand.-
FWIW, we do a first grade readers' rally at work the first 2 weeks of March every year. We perform skits of both Amelia Bedelia and Pigeon. The kids LOVE the Amelia Bedelia one and just like the Pigeon one.
How do people not love Amelia Bedilia? She is awesome.
I love her, too, and can't wait until DS1 is old enough to "get" them! He's 4, and I think we've got another year or two before I could read it without stopping to explain every single page.
I think 2.5 is probably too young to really understand them, but she likely enjoys that Amelia does things that frustrate others and/or she realizes was not what Amelia was supposed to do. In another year or two, she'll probably realize that she doesn't really understand why the words are funny and she'll start asking a bazillion questions.

Huh. We do something similar for kindergarteners in my district and they LOVE the pigeon. In fact we added a second pigeon book to the list this year because he is such a big hit. We don't really read Amelia Bedilia in K, but I'll bet a skit with her is pretty funny.
Amelia Bedelia annoys the shit out of me. Every single thing she does wrong I have to stop and explain to dd1 how she misinterpreted a colloquial phrase or a homophone or something. OMFG. The books are long as hell to begin with and having to explain them to a kid makes them torturous. Maybe in a few years it will be easier? But at present Amelia Bedelia is banned from my house.
We have never done Pinkalicious etc. dd1 is a fan of Fancy Nancy which I can deal with.
All dumb things like calling the roll - well my teachers took attendance, and in any case that's a bun, not a roll.
This + growing up to become an accountant = CANNOT STOP LAUGHING
On topic: SFIL reads instruction manuals to V. But he's very enthusiastic about it, so he pays attention. "Before performing any maintenance on the printer, be sure to disconnect the power cord! Wowww!"
But yeah anything you read a million times gets boring. Steve the Steam Shovel is the frequent read that I tolerate the best.
I fucking HATE the pinky/purple/goldie licious books!!!! LOATHE!
We only have Pinkalicious and I was horrified to find out there are more of these type of books. They are currently banned from my house!
Good plan. Pinkalicious is the best one. The others...ugh. I let DD get them from the library one time each (purple, gold, silver, emerald), but we did not own any copies of them.

pinkalicious doesn't bother me too much, but we only have one or two of them. I LOOOOVE Fancy Nancy, we have a bunch of those. Amelia Bedelia is just dumb, I can't take it lol. I didn't grow up with them either so I have no emotional attachment to them
