At 9 months I try and keep my babies out of the sun as much as possible. But, the sunscreen I use on all my kids in California Baby. The cream is thick but I also like the stick -- easier to apply on the face and rub in on squirmy kids.
I like Badger. Specifically the tangerine vanilla one best. I've used babyganics but my kids seemed to still get color with that brand. I've also used Babo botanical but the smell was very strong and I felt like it also didn't cover as well.
Banana Boat Baby: www.amazon.com/Banana-Boat-Sunscreen-Lotion-Ounce/dp/B001EJOFA2 (or similar at Target). I tend to prefer barrier sunscreens to chemical. Of course a hat with a broad brim is the best sun protection for the head, but it can be difficult to convince your kid not to keep taking it off.

We are trying Aveeno Baby this year. We had been using the Neutrogena Pure Free but M started having a reaction to it. (it makes his skin really red & dry.)
There is some sort of sunscreen list that comes out every year. I try to get stuff on the top of the list. Some of the stuff is really hard to find and I don't go to extremes to find stuff.
