I went and visited an inhome daycare today. I really liked her and the area the kids would be in. I would like to run a background check though. Any recommendations for websites that would allow me to do this?
Ditto, if she is licensed that would already be taken care of. If she is unlicensed, not sure how you could do that on your own, unless you asked her to allow you to do that.
She isn't licensed yet she plans to be in the next year. This will only be part time care 2 days a week for now. Oh she had one in Az before she moved to KY wonder if I can look up past licensing.
My son's old in home daycare provider kept promising to be licensed and never followed through. Not saying that this will happen to you, but I'd be wary. We pulled him out of this place.
She didn't ask if you would use an unlicensed place.
There is nothing wrong with using an unlicensed provider if you are confident in the level of care.
Hot button issue for me. My unlicensed provider isn't licensed and doesn't need to be because she is fabulous and has plenty of families that are comfortable with using her regardless.
piaffe KOKO My DCP is fabulous and LOVES my kid and cares for her amazingly. I did not background check her because I sort of knew her anyway. Some people call her references and I always offer to talk to potential new families.
Thank you. My brain didn't even think about asking for references. I will do that as well.

This made me feel better. We are looking into someone who isn't licensed but she told me that up front and I know all the families that go to her. I am not worried since I have referrals and know she has been doing this a long time.
I have nothing against unlicensed providers, but in this scenario where she was asking about a background check it seemed like she was not confident in that level of care.
I didn't read it that way. A background check is just due diligence. I just hate that unsolicited advice thrown out at someone that discourages what could be a great relationship.
Could be. But also could go terribly the other way and being unlicensed that's probably more of a possibility seeing as there is no oversight. Frankly I don't care if someone uses a licensed or unlicensed in home. But I don't think you have a right to jump on someone because they're giving honest experience. I mean half the posts on this board are unsolicited advice.
The only reason I caution against unlicensed providers is because of the updates on safe sleep, etc. That licensed providers have to attend training on. That's a non negotiable to me, so I'd ask about their training as well as checking background. That's why I said I'd keep looking for a licensed provider since you're not started with anyone.
