I went to Costco with DS this afternoon to get a few things. We went to the checkout line behind a young woman, probably in her 20s. She said hi to DS and told me how cute he was while she was unloading stuff from a cart onto the checkout belt. For some reason in my sleep deprived mind and while talking to her, I somehow got the idea that she worked at Costco as one of the people who helps unload carts at checkout. So, I asked if she minded putting the few things in my cart on the belt. She said "sure, not a problem" unloaded my stuff, then stepped up to pay for her stuff. That is when I realized I had just asked a customer, not a Costco employee, to empty my cart stuff onto the belt. I was sooo embarrassed and started to apologize profusely. The woman was very nice and just brushed it off, but I must have apologized two more times and said how embarrassed I was.
This is definitely one of my most embarrassing moments of life, and definitely since becoming a mom.
That's sort of hilarious. I wouldn't worry about it. It's not all that weird either. I once had a lady in front of me in Target with twins like a month old. They were both screaming. She was exhausted and stressed. DD and I were patiently waiting and she asked if I'd unload her cart so she could deal with the babies. I was more than happy to.
Haha - if it makes you feel any better, I did this once. With no kids in tow.
My sister is very distinctive looking. (Tall, thin, super curly red hair.) She worked at Gap. I went to the check out counter, saw her standing with her back to the counter, and said something like, "Psst, what do you have to do to get a fitting room here?"
I didn't realize that her manager ALSO had super curly red hair in the same cut and was similarly tall and thin. And was the person at the counter. Not my sister.
She was very gracious about it ("Oh, you must be looking for X?") but I wanted to sink through the floor because I psst-ed at a stranger. Ha.
