M rolled over onto his stomach multiple times last night! He still sleeps in the pnp in our bedroom, so i heard him rustling a lot and figured I'd get up and feed him before he got cranky. I get up and look at him and he's in full on tummy time position, but with his head down and eyes closed. I rolled him onto to his back 3 times and he was like, nope, and plopped back over onto his belly. I turned him on his side, and he got a hold of his thumb and slept for 2 more hours.
He's not even 4 months old yet and it freaks me out that he seemed to prefer sleeping on his belly. Should i do something? And what can I do, really? Its just been drilled in that back is best. I just want him to be safe.
Ehhh, leave him be? Start him out on his back and the rest is his decision with the obvious no loose blankets breathable crib, etc.
If they can roll over on their own I don't worry about them sleeping on their tummy. If they have enough neck and back strength to roll over they can move their head to the side and not be sleeping face down. At least that is what I have observed with my kids.
But I'm a breezy mom of three. Interested to hear what others say.

I agree. This happened to us around the same time and he sleep got so much better. He still sleeps the best on his tummy. as long as he can roll the other way, I was fine with it.
Once she started rolling onto her stomach we stopped swaddling. It was the night before my sister's wedding so we got no sleep because of all her wake ups. That was May 18 and DD was born in January so yep- 4 months.
