In the crock pot, I'm assuming? I always rub the spices on the meat and then add water.
I'm not sure on the time. I have mine on high now because I forgot to plug the CP in lol I'm hoping 5-6 hours should be enough time.
I will add the potatoes in an hour or so and then the cabbage with about an hour and a half left to cook. I'd do the same for carrots too, other wise they get mushy.

I put a little liquid in mine (beef broth) yesterday. Added the veggies later and the cabbage last of all. I did 8 hrs on low. I think 5 hrs on high should do it.
I can't remember what we did last year. I put mine in the crock pot with about a cup of beer and then added water to almost cover the meat. I usually cook it for a long time on low, but am trying 9 hours on high b/c we started it late. I have like 8 pounds in there so it needs a long time.
I cook my veggies all separately at the end, on the stove. It's a hassle but they taste fresher and look prettier.

Yeah, I always add enough water to cover it and cook it on high for 5-6 hours - I feel like it comes out better that way than when I do it on low all day. I don't add potatoes and veggies, though, so I'm no help on that front.
