St. Patty's Day plans/traditions?

The only "tradition" I have started in putting a few drops of green food coloring in DS' bath. He gets a kick out of it and this year actually remembered we would be doing it!

As for meals, I'm not a big fan of the traditional Irish fare, but I will be including potatoes in the chicken pot pie soup I am making and this afternoon DS and I are going to bake cupcakes and slather them in green frosting.

We are making green eggs and ham for dinner along with some green pancakes. Ds reacts to food dyes so I will probably hate my life like the minute he finished. Lol. Ah well.

I might have made some green-frosted cupcakes, but I forgot to plan on it and made monster cookies last night, so can't really justify making cupcakes today.

I like the green eggs and ham and green pancakes idea, though! Might do that in the future...

Nothing much for us. I might make some Irish soda bread. And I got DS some shamrock tattoos. DS is off from school today but I know the teachers have planned a fun day tomorrow setting leprechaun traps etc.

Nothing really at home. The boys both wore green shirts to ECFE today and had lots of shamrock activites to do and take home.

Green pizza (pesto sauce, green olives, green peppers, a spinach stuffed sausage, artichoke hearts) and rainbow salad (strawberries, oranges, bananas, kiwi, blueberries, grapes) for dinner. DD requested we make some decorations, so we will do that as well. A local pub has family-friendly activities and crafts this afternoon, so we might do that with a friend. Otherwise, we will go for a walk at the botanical gardens or something (where it is all green...).

We are wearing green the best we can. The two youngest girls have cute St. Patty's Day shirts but I failed to get anything for DS and DD1 this year, so DD1 is wearing a lime-green shirt w/ a mouse on it and DS is wearing t-shirt with green dinosaurs on it. Close enough. We're having corned beef & cabbage for dinner (kids will probably hate it) and if I can pull it off, also making Irish soda bread later. Depending on how things are going by dinner time, DH & I might have some beer and dye it green. At preschool, DS made a "pot of gold" with Corn Pops cereal and an elf cookie (i.e. leprechaun).

As kids all we did was wear green to school, which was fun but not really a huge deal. As I mentioned earlier, all I might do is make green-frosted cupcakes. But that's largely because it's just another excuse to make cupcakes.

Well, we are celebrating mostly because they cancelled school today for no reason. It was 35 and drizzly this morning. I drove to school and everything.
Ds1 is wearing green and now so is ds2 since he dumped water all over his orange shirt.
Yesterday we did the corned beef, cabbage, soda bread deal. Mostly for DH. He's the only one who really likes it.
I did put green food coloring in the potty to make ds1 laugh this morning. He loves green. He's always asking for a green puppy for his birthday.

I saw some of this on FB this morning, and thought it was INSANE.  No way, no how am I using this holiday to make another damn mess in my house and give my kids more crap that - you guessed it - is also going to make a damn mess in my house.  I am trying to rid of crap not have some trouble making little bastard make more work for me.

But rainbows and an excuse to go listen to Irish music?  I'm in for that.

Growing up the mischief was a school thing, never at home. Dd1 keeps wondering where her gold coins are.

We actually are very Irish but don't do much. Corned beef & fixings for dinner, the girls wore green for school. A few years ago I started a lucky charms for breakfast tradition. Dumb but they love it and I never but treat cereal otherwise.
