I don't know what to do about P. Some days, like yesterday, he is totally fine. Then some days, like today, I would sell him to the circus in a hot minute.
Symptoms:
-very stiff, which makes BF difficult. He straightens his legs and throws his head back and constantly latches and unlatches. When I bicycle his legs it's really hard to do.
-slow weight gain, basically the bare minimum every week. Weighted feeds show he is getting 2-3 oz each time.
-spits up more than I remember C ever doing, and it's occasionally projectile. He often cries after he spits up.
-poops 1-2X a week, very stinky farts
-always seems mildly congested, sneezes and coughs a lot
-general fussiness--he sleeps a ton but doesn't have much awake and happy time. If he's awake he's usually crying. Hasn't smiled yet.
I took him to the NP at the ped's office a few weeks ago and she basically said it was colic and gave us probiotics to try. I think she thought I was a hypochondriac and now I'm second guessing myself.
I just talked to the pedi nurse and they want to see him again today.
This was DS only worse (he also had colic, and numerous food allergies). Definitely sounds like reflux to me. Have you tried going without dairy for a couple days yet to see how that affects him.
Colic is just a blanket word for all newborn issues. I would insist on getting this checked out. I wish I had pushed my pedi further. I don't think you need a referral to go directly to the GI specialist.

((hugs)) You're not crazy. C has a lot of those symptoms and is on Prilosec for reflux (has been since 2 weeks old). He's gaining properly and not vomitting as much but still has a lot of gas, very stinky farts, arched back, and sneezes a lot. I would keep pushing for answers. Oh, and we have been doing the probiotics for 2 months now and they seem to help too (along with my no dairy and minimal soy diet).

My vote is both too. Have you tried gas drops and/or gripe water? I would definitely check out the reflux rebels website, that's what tipped us off to DS's milk sensitivity

Baby O had huge gas issues. His pedi showed me how to feel his tummy for gas. You can feel it. If you take your hand and put it above the diaper line to start, squeeze in to grab/hold the stomach. Move gentle up and down. If you feel/hear a crinkly sound, that is gas.
We have horrible farts over here and when I do frog legs, it sounds like I'm playing a 200+ lbs man in tuba. And super stinky.
With time he's outgrown the gas and I eliminated dairy/soy for two months. Now I eat it moderately.
Based on this thread I am taking P to the doc on Thursday. She's been really uncomfortable off and on and gags/chokes often plus has congestion regularly. I just want to make sure she's not suffering from reflux, even though she rarely spits up.
Sounds like reflux. It could be reflux on its own or related to dairy/soy.You may want to do an elimination. Our pedi ran a dirty diaper really early on to test for blood traces. This is usually an indicator for MSPI.
