Our cleaning lady just found a snake in our house. Omg. We knew there were snakes - we saw a HUGE (like 6 foot) snake disappear under our foundation a few months ago. We didn't expect to find them in the house! I am freaking out. I called a snake guy and he started naming off my neighborhood before I even told him where I lived. Apparently three of my neighbors already called him today. The rain disturbed all the snakes in the area, apparently. I am totally freaking out. He said one lady woke up with 2 (2!!!) of them in her bed, and that they also like cribs. OMG. Anyone deal with this? What happened? He is coming out today or tomorrow. Cleaning lady attempted to trap the snake by shutting the door and putting a towel under it LOL.
My parents had a snake in their house once. It creeped me out. They can travel through the smallest of holes. They caught it and got rid of it but who knows when they'll have another. I have no advice because as far as I know, you can't really keep them out unless you are able to seal up every tiny crack/hole.

I lives in the desert. Snakes don't scare me. Now if I woke up with a rattler in my bed I wouldn't be happy but unless its poisonous, I'd just pick it up and take it outside. Thankfully desert snakes usually avoid people.

we used to get snakes in our yard fairly often when i was a kid - lived next to the woods. Once a huge king snake was in our basement- but that is the only time i remember any in the house.
We had a "snake catcher" pole avail at all times - since sometimes they were copperheads (poisionous) so we could safely catch them and either put back in the woods- or if a copperhead, my dad would kill it. A long stick with a wire type roap that loops at the end so you can get it around the snakes neck, while you are at a distance, pull to tighten, etc.
EW EW EW. I like looking at snakes behind glass. I hate if they are not behind glass. I hope he gets out there today, and not tomorrow, bc I could not sleep if I were imagining a snake in my bed.
There was a snake under my desk once and I still have to check under my desk (6 years later) EVERYDAY for snakes. Every.fucking.day.
Fuck snakes and their slithery nastiness. Now I have to call a pest control guy and report that I don't have snakes but they may be coming for me and I'd like some kind of repellant around the foundation.
I also add, that ever since the last time I talked about snakes on this board, and someone posted about a snake in a toilet, I have had to check to toilet out everytime I go to the bathroom. I can't even pee in the dark anymore.

We really need to ban snake topics.
I'm so, so sorry, that was me!
Could also have been me. Monsoon season in Thailand taught me to always check the toilet before sitting. Three decades later, still check--every--single--time. I also always test/check swimming pools before diving in.
We have snakes around (at least recently, under our siding--I'd post a picture, but you'd all hate me for life then) but not inside where we can see them. We aren't trying to get rid of them though, hoping they eat the rodents that keep feasting on car wiring/brake lines/fuel lines/etc. I still hate seeing them.
we have had one come up from the septic system..it happens, we find snakes everywhere, especially living close to the swamp area. Dogs bring them in and like to show us what they have caught..
My in-laws have a house cat that catches snakes that come inside there - they also have a snake that has lived in their yard for awhile (a king snake, maybe?) and they want it to stay alive so it keeps rodents out of the garden and keeps poisonous snakes away (they won't come into another snakes territory). We have city sewer and are on a slab (with cement block walls to boot) so I am crossing my fingers we never get them inside here. If one gets in the backyard with the dogs (who are both pretty wussy so probably wouldn't get it) I will be getting an outdoor cat, even though I prettymuch hate cats I'd rather that than a snake in the part of the yard we hang out in.

I have two pet snakes. That being said, I would have heart attack if I found a snake in my bed, shower, or toilet. Nightmares for years! I studied abroad in the Australian rainforest for a month in college and we had to check our sleeping bags each night for snakes and spiders. Yikes.

Omg, I would freak out if I found a snake in my house. (Like move to a hotel until the exterminator promised they resolved the issue.) Snakes terrify me.
We had a snake in our upstairs office once. It had come in because we had a mouse problem at the time. We caught it on a glue trap and had exterminators out to fix the mouse problem. We also had a wildlife guy walk around our entire house inside and out looking for evidence of other snakes and pointing out areas of possible entry that we needed to close off or plug up. It still makes me shudder to this day!
LOL at all these replies! I forgot to check this thread last night. I live in the Baltimore suburbs, so unless you live near me, I guess you don't have to worry
We actually found the snake! It made it halfway across the house to our sunporch (unless this was a second snake, I don't know). That in itself is pretty freaky. My husband was out there, looked across the room and saw the snake looking at him OMG. He quietly opened the door and said, "Hey, I think I found the snake, I need a big cup." I ran out there with the biggest mixing bowl I could find because I was expecting something huge. I looked down and it was this tiny little thing all curled up in a coil - it wasn't bigger than 2" in diameter (the coil, not the snake). When it stretched out it was about 6" or 8", but really thin. It was kind of cute all coiled up but then it kind of got freaky when it moved and stretched out. I ended up grabbing a glass instead, and for some reason the snake crawled right inside! DH took him across the street and left him in the neighbor's yard (although I'm sure he'll come right back if he actually lives here).
Then we got totally ripped off this morning by the snake company. I tried to cancel the appointment but they showed up anyway. Then he took 2 minutes and walked around my house, said it was fine, and charged me $95. When I complained to the office, they said the fee just for coming out is $95 no matter if it takes 2 or 20 minutes. Well, thanks for running a company where is it acceptable to charge your customers $95 for 2 minutes of "work." Don't call Mid-Atlantic Wildlife Control if you live out this way!! Rip off.
I am just going to tell myself that this was the same snake that the cleaning lady saw, despite this tiny little thing traveling through several rooms of my house. That way I can sleep again. All last night I continually had dreams about catching multiple snakes in my house!
