So many birthday party questions around here lately. Hopefully I won't have many more.
When throwing a birthday party, do you buy 2 liters of soda or cans. Last year we bought 12 packs of soda and had bottled water, etc. but there was so much leftover and we had the rest sitting around the house. I don't drink soda and DH rarely does. So.... Liters or cans? Or byob? (Kidding!)
eta: If you have a fabulous punch recipe, would you please share with me? Thanks!
We usually buy cans, mostly because once a 2 litre bottle is open I find it goes flat fast if we don't finish it.
My mom makes an awesome punch, I think she usually combines orange juice, 7-up or ginger ale, and a good fruit punch. The cool thing she does, though, is freeze pineapple rings and maraschino cherries in juice in a tube pan, and puts the frozen ring into the punch bowl. It keeps the punch cool, and as it melts the fruit is released so you can scoop out pieces into your punch cup with the punch.

I usually just do a few liters of different soda. Juice boxes. Surprisingly people drink the seltzer water we drink more than the soda. Cans would be fine. At least they don't go flat if you don't drink them right away. Our problem is we don't keep soda here but if it's here, we drink it! My mil makes a punch with a mix of Hawaiian punch and pineapple juice. It's very sweet!

I always opt for cans. It costs a little more, but the leftovers will still be usable, you don't have to provide separate cups and ice for drinking, and you don't have any massive spills from kids trying to pour their own soda.
But very few. I usually serve sweet tea, unsweet tea, lemonade, punch, water and seriously like 2-3 2 liters. And both of our extended families are big soda drinkers.
Always cans. I am a diet coke addict so I am always stocking up on cans when my grocery store has them on sale. If I know we have a party coming up I get regular coke and sprite too
Also, I hate when people don't have soda. I LIKE soda damnit, I don't drink much, I don't smoke, soda is my one thing. Lemonade is not refreshing, people!

Neither is soda. I've been to plenty of parties without soda. I do serve it depending on the party, but it's not some kind of party requirement.

Soda is plenty refreshing, IMO. Which was kind of my point. People have different tastes.

I don't know how people can see alcohol as a party requirement but not soda. Especially when talking about children's parties. I've also been to plenty of parties without soda, and plenty more where they have soda but don't offer any diet soda. It sucks! If you've got ice and coolers and all that going anyway, toss some cans in and make everyone happy!
If it is primarily kids, like a dropoff party, then I can see no soda. But if you are having adults, yes there should be a soda option, as well as water, tea, coffee etc. For me, as a host, I don't want any guest to want for anything (within reason). Soda is a reasonable want that I would expect to be provided
I always make sure to have diet, regular and caffeine free options

We don't serve soda because nobody around here drinks soda anymore.
We host a lot and over the years we just get left with all the soda cans and we don't drink it either so there's no point in having it. Restaurants we go to don't even have it on the menu anymore. They might have a specialty soda but not Pepsi or coke.
