We are going to a meet and greet with a little Yorkie named Bambi today. I've heard they can be yappie, anything else?
Meet and greet went well. She is adorable, 8 years old, a little timid, but she sat on my lap, DH is concerned about her age. We scheduled a second meet and greet along with a another dog. So essentially two meet and greets on Tuesday.
My dog that we had to put down a year ago was a yorkie. A little yappy, but she was just mostly set off by our other dog. She was so sweet and was my little buddy, she followed me everywhere. I would get another one in the future.
They are small, and cute. They can have issues with their teeth (as can many small dog breeds). My mother has had 4 Yorkies, and most lost most if not all of their teeth. They tend to get underfoot, so you have to watch where you walk.
They are extremely loyal. Don't be Paris Hilton and put one in a purse, LOL.

I have a Yorkie who is almost 12. He actually isn't yappy at all, but he is absolutely ridiculous. He has the hugest attitude and most stubborn, determined personality in a tiny little body.
Yorkies are prone to luxating patellas, he has torn both of his CCLs, so two knee surgeries, then about 2 years ago got sudden onset diabetes and is now insulin dependent. Eta he's also lost about half of his teeth, which is a common Yorkie issue like a pp mentioned.
But all that said, he is my tiny little buddy and follows me everywhere, if I'm sitting down he is more than likely in my lap. The health problems have been expensive and scary to say the least, but he is a loyal, loving little dog.
My BIL has a mini one and it is the most annoying dog on the planet. It barks at everything and always had accidents in our house so we had to tell them the dog couldn't come over anymore.
But mom has 2 regular sized ones and they are great!
H's aunt has one and she is really sweet and lovable, but definitely gets underfoot a lot. Potty training can be difficult, especially in unfamiliar environments - she always pees at other people's houses.
The Good: They are very lovey and loyal. Non shedding. They are very smart. Good snugglers. Amazing personalities.
The bad: can be difficult to potty train, can be bad with small children (my MJ is terrible with kids ). Can be yappy. Keeping up on their teeth can be a lot of work.

I have a 13 year old pure bred Yorkie and a 5 year old Yorkie/Bischon mix. The older one is stubborn as hell and is yappy. He has chronic problems with UTIs and urine crystals and likes to pee on the tile. So he wears a belly band when he's not in his crate. He also has a lot of problems with his back. He gets mean if you try to make him do something he doesn't want, like get out of bed or stop stealing socks and underwear.
The younger one is much better behaved and is sweet as pie. He is my shadow and doesn't have a mean bone in his body. We've never seen him show his teeth or growl at all. He hates birds and barks like crazy at them.
Both of the ones I've had interactions with have been super sweet and cuddly. The one was like a millionty years old though and lost bladder control and had to wear a diaper
Mine was really good with kids, we had our son when she was about 2 years old and we were afraid how that would go, but she did great! I miss her sweet face!
I love my yorkie more than anything but the husband dislikes her much of the time. She is yappy when startled by noises, has a big dog mentality and doesnt realize she would be a snack to large dogs, and is very stubborn. She also hates kids when the run around near her and is generally skiddish around anyone younger than 13ish. I see past all of this because she is my little shadow and is so fricking cute. Despite all her nerotic tendancies, I love her so much and will likely have another yorkie after her.
We dont have too many problems with accidents in the house. Maybe once a month she has one when we get off schedule.
With yorkies you have to watch for knee problems and trechea problems. She is 9 but have had her on joint supplements her whole life to hopefully help with the knee thing (no idea if it makes a differance). The doc can feel her knees moving a bit but it has been an issue yet. We also use a harness when taking her out instead of a collar to help keep from any issues on her throat.

my yorkie was the love of my life , my baby, BUT he wasnt the ideal dog, BY FAR
He was def. a yapper, at eveyrthing (pin drop) hated ! Hated! Hated! People (very territorial) peed everywhere, constantly marked his territory, even after classes
but he will always be my "problem child" He was my <3
My grandmother had a yorkie and lived with us part time when I was a kid. That was my favorite dog ever. She was wee wee pad trained and never had issues and was not particularly yappie except when the door bell rang or heard strange noises. She also got along with our cats very well. If I ever get a dog, I'd definitely consider a yorkie.
They can be pretty different. I have had two- one was very protective to the point of going crazy. The other was hyper but friendly. Both were fairly yappy. Both died too young (9 and 10 y.o) of health problems- which is weird considering usually little dogs live long. They required a lot of baths and grooming. Got stinky easily!
While I loved my yorkies, I don't think I'd get another one. Maybe a mix. Currently I have a little mutt who is still small and non shedding but not a purebred. Her disposition is better than my yorkies. But, all are different!

Bambi is so cute though!
Ditto all of this! We have a Yorkie mix, but her temperament is ALL Yorkie.

I'll really emphasize the kids thing. My yorkie was my baby. I loved him more than anything. He always showed aggression towards children, and I was terrified when I was pregnant. We worked with a veterinary behaviorist, and even with medication, he went after my son when he was a week old. We immediately rehomed him. If you're considering having children, I'd go with a more child friendly breed.
