by "watching your spending" i mean calculating how much money is in your account, etc...not necessarily to the penny..but rough estimates...thinking about if the funds are available before you make your purchase.

until James's "promotion" we were in the casually watch our spending group. Now we are more reliant on each check for the next couple months. Things are going to be tight, but in the long run, we will move into the latter categories.
I'm a saver. I try to buy things on sale, I love using coupons and saving money but I don't have to. I hate spending but I also tend to splurge on things like vacations, nice dinners out, gifts for family, etc. I generally don't track what I spend money on, as long as my savings account doesn't dip below a certain point I'm happy. Buying a house and planning a wedding definitely had me on edge as there were many big ticket purchases in a short period of time.
we're pretty cheap but we don't need to be - we make enough to buy what we want when we want it (within reason). H wants as much of our money going into savings/towards the mortgage as possible.

H and I aren't rich, and we only check balances of our checking/saving accounts maybe once a month while we are paying bills and putting other money into savings. Our "goal" is to keep our credit card bills about the same as our rent each month, and that is about as close we come to a budget. We go out to eat at least once a week together, H goes to HH with friends each week, and I do a decent amount of online shopping.
H and I have a lot of friends and coworkers who live paycheck to paycheck, these are DINK households too. I don't know how they got/keep themselves at that point financially. I wonder how they can waste through money so quickly.
There should be one for "We watch our spending, but don't necessarily need to." I watch every penny, because that's all I know how to do, but we don't really have to anymore.
