I am having grand (de)-illusions of what I am going to get done over spring break. It's officially spring according to the calendar, I am on spring break next week and I am determined that the snow will go.away.soon. I could find 2 million lists online about what to do for spring cleaning, but in an effort to make the list do-able, what is on your list? What are your top five spring cleaning tasks?
1. Clean out the hall closet - wash and put away mittens/hats/heavy jackets/boots, this will also require that I go buy another storage tub to put the girls things in unless I find a better system for these things. 2. Take piles of stuff to Goodwill - in a perfect world I would do this AFTER I clean out all the closets 3. Clean out all the closets?? 4. Buy a microwave/sell my old microwave 5. Clean the grout/caulk in my tub
I pretty much finished last week. I de-clutter and organize throughout the year, so spring cleaning for me is really more of giving the house a deep cleaning/clean things that I don't get to nearly as often as I should
On my list was: 1) Thoroughly clean mainfloor floor 2) Wash and polish kitchen cabinets 3) Wipe down and touch up paint on baseboards throughout house 4) Polish banister 5) Clean all windows and window/door sills (inside only, because I'm not getting up on a ladder to clean window outsides)

Still waiting for it to be consistently spring before I put away coats, boots, change the tires on the cars, etc. The yard is either snow or mud.
1- wash the windows and power wash the house 2- get ready for the big yard sale, donate what we aren't going to sell, trash some stuff 3- wash the cars 4- clean out the freezer 5- inventory the boys' clothes and make a list of what they need for summer.

My list is 7 pages...and color coded. But I like lists, WAY more than cleaning. I did finish the kitchen and dining room, though, so it's motivating me to keep going.
Top five: - DEEP clean the kitchen and bathroom - clean under and behind all beds - purge the shit out of all cupboards, drawers, and closets (I think if it was a wedding present and is still in a box, it's probably safe to get rid of at this point) - purge kid stuff - toys, blankets, clothes, books - rearrange some cupboards to give a space in the dining room for kid art stuff
And then we tacked on a bunch of home projects: - reupholstering all living room furniture - replacing front window - hopefully changing out all drawer pulls in the dining room and maybe kitchen - paint kids' bedroom door and touch up trim paint around house - wall shelving for kids' room

You don't by chance have in in a document do you? Or want to send me pics? I'm a geek about this stuff and would love to check it out ....my nerdy self is actually very serious....

Of COURSE it's typed up! :-) Let me see if I can figure out how to attach it or send it or something...
I have been trying to tackle a few projects each weekend. So far we have cleaned out the hall closet and donating items, cleaned & organized the playroom, cleaned out the kids kitchen cabinet and purged old cups, plates bottles, deep cleaned the kids bathroom, deep cleaned our bedroom, re-hung pictures in DD2's room, hung a mirror in DD1's room. It has definitely made keeping up with the housework much easier. If I had to pick 5 remaining things to accomplish, they would be: 1. Deep clean and organize the pantry 2. Paint and finish laundry room 3. Deep clean and organize DD1's room (this is stressing me out because her room is out of control. ALL THE TOYS. And I think she is a mild hoarder). 4. General yard spring clean up/freshen up with planting flowers in planter beds and pots, power washing driveway and patio, adding extra mulch and bark chips around the play structure 5. The garage (this one makes me just want to move).
Mamaalysson - are you secretly my college roommate? 7 page list! That makes me stressed thinking about it!
I know. I fully recognize and admit to my crazy. Pretty lists soothe me.
I always think I want a list then it's too much.
Anyway - about the reupholstering are you doing it or hiring someone? I've been seriously contemplating doing our couch myself. I keep talking about it but I need to commit and buy fabric.

I'm trying to be realistic. I want to clean baseboards and floors, wash dog beds, wash windows, and clear up the yard and garden. If that got done, I'd br thrilled.

We have a leather couch and chair that we are sending out to be done. And an ugly old rocking chair that I am slip covering myself. I've reupholstered small scale things, but never in leather. And if we're putting that much money in, and for furniture we anticipate having forever, i wanted it done right.

Yea, I wouldn't do leather either. This is just fabric and fairly simple lines. It's not a forever piece, but definitely more than a 5 year piece.

I say go for it! Are you thinking a slipcover or fully reupholstered? Slipcovers are pretty easy, just a lot of fabric to maneuver.
Next week I'm on break too. The cleaning company will do our basic clean on Saturday. I plan to do the following: paint the new bathroom doors and molding, clean baseboards and banister, wipe down cabinets, go through our closets and purge, and organize the pile of ds' stuff in the living room.
3) Sort through multiple boxes of DS outgrown clothes - keep vs donate
4) Clean whirlpool tub jets
5) Change over winter clothes & accessories for spring/summer
Assuming you mean change out your own clothes from winter to summer, where do you put the opposite season clothing? I find that I layer a lot of it and most things get worn year round (except heavy jackets and sweaters).

My 2 big projects for the coming weeks are to round up all the toys my kids don't play with anymore and set them out for my neighborhood wide yard sale in May and go through my pantry and throw out expired stuff and donate any soon to expire stuff to a food bank.

I keep all of my layering basics in my dresser and closet year round, but my season-specific stuff gets stashed a big bin in the attic, with all of our other seasonal stuff. The kids have a big space above their closet where their off-season and too-big clothes are stored.
I don't have a list but here is what I've done so far: Swept/cleaned all the pollen of the porches Cleaned glass front cabinets Cleaned top of cabinets Polished range hood Cleaned light fixtures over island Ceiling fan blades Baseboards and under beds (vacuum)
